That's what I have, but I have the big line kit also.

The idea of cleaning fuel with a smaller micron filter is because injection pressure have soared. The days of an old PC engine with nozzle pressures of 450-500 psi are long gone. Injection pressures are the other side of 30,000psi these days. What didn't "hurt" at 500 psi destroys things at 30,000 psi.
Kinda reminds me of a piece of straw getting blown around by a breeze vs. a piece of straw getting driven into a telephone pole during an F5 tornado.
Hope that dang straw doesn't hit my fuel filter, they might void my warranty!!!!..hahahaa....

Any one know what the 6.7 fuel filter rating is? Curious if D.C. did what Bosche recomended, 5 micron or less.

The only thing that concerns me is that the extra restriction of a 7 micron doesn't load down a stock in tank lift pump enough to shorten it's service life. I don't think it's possible to
put a higher load on the pump without it drawing a higher amp load, which will burn it out sooner, but the magical question is how much life will be taken from the pump, and if it would be covered under warranty on the 05's if they didn't suggest the 7 micron for those years. But when the lift pump burns out , I wouldn't mention the 7micron at all if it were me. If the 06's have the same lift pump as the 05's, i would worry about it at all, because DC must know what their doing. I'm wondering also maybe the 06's have a change in the injectors the makes them depend on cleaner fuel, seeing DC didn't require the 7micron for the 05's.Also in my 05 tech manual it said their
can be two different injectors used in the 05 , and not to replace them with the wrong type, I think it said something
about the length.

not bashing, just wondering?
Well, lets see. If I had a test bench of sorts I would test the pressure drop (differential) across the 10 micron vs the 7 micron. The 7 wouln't necessarilly have a higher PD, that would have to take into account filter surface area also, I'm sure.

Maybe Bigred can tell us this weekend as he changes his. Maybe the difference is insignificant.

My 06 has the 2 micron GDP big line kit and the before and after pressure drop is no less than a 1-2 psi drop since the GDP kit was installed.

BTW the lowest pressure I have seen is 7.5 at WFO with an Edge Juice/Attitude on level 3 "60 hp setting".

When I called them I said "you all" I've read have a 5 micron factory drop in filter for 03 up Dodge Cummins trucks. Lady said I'll double check but your not the first to call this week about that and all we have/make is a 10 micron. She wanted to know where I got the info from.Told her etc. It would be great if they do but kinda want to see it in print etc.

I have 60,000+ on 10 micron filters. I'm not worried about it.

Only problem with 10 vs 7 micron filter is water will pass the 10 much easier, heck you probably will never have to drain water from the housing. The reason DC didn't put a 5 micron filter in there is they plan on their customers being ignorant and not follow maintanence recomendations. Since the 5 micron filter won't pass water, the folks whom don't like to drain their water will end up with a no start eventually.

then the 'water in fuel light' will come on and they'll twist the yellow **** for a minute and be good to go again.

I drained my fuel bowl yesterday prior to my filter swap and of all the fuel that came out, there was one water bubble in there no larger around than a nickel.

Email baldwin filter like I did and ask them the micron size of the pf7977. They emailed me back saying it was a 5. Hope the info was correct.

There is no doubt you got the correct information. The one thing missing is the rating....5 micron nominal or 5 micron absolute. I suspect it is 5 micron nominal.
