Fuel Filter Canister

What size tube would I need to connect to the bottom of the fuel filter canister? I just want to be able to drain into a bottle and not have a mess.

Thanks

Why not just stick the tube in a bottle when you drain it? Otherwise you still gotta drain the bottle into something after your done changing filters...

I guess I could have been a little more clear after reading my original post... I was wondering the diameter of tube I need to connect to the Fuel Filter Canister? Just dont want the fuel to drain under the truck...

I know my truck allready has the tube attached to allow for draining into a bucket or something. Not sure what size it is though since my rig is in the shop right now.

The last time I changed mine I just put a little 3 gallon pail under the truck and the tube was long enough to drain into the little pail, once you take a closer look you will see. It's not that hard. Just make sure you remember to close the vale good and I recommended some vaseline or white grease on the new o ring, make sure the old one is accounted for/removed. And torque the lid back on tightly. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tips... I assume the tube should be the same as the 05/06 since I have an early 07 with the 5.9

The factory tube is a little short and can sometimes splash when draining. I add a smaller piece into mine then drain into a small clean clear container to inspect the fuel. There is a small amout of sediment and I let it settle for a day or two then pour back into the tank. No sense in wasting the liquid gold!!

I just cut about a 4 foot section of a garden hose and slip it up over the hose and into a bucket. When done just set it up tp drain it dry and put it up for next time. I think the hose was a 5/8 worked great.

I found my tube by shoving the yellow valve over while my wife was under the truck. My day sort of went poorly after that but at least I knew where the fuel came out at.

I cant imagine why! "honey, anything yet?" "No dear, still no fuel" "What are you making for dinner tonight after you finish crawling around under my truck?" " I thought we would have a nice...gargle, cough, cough, spit...what the hell? Dear I think I see where the fuel comes out."

I just did this last weekend - went to Lowe's and got 1/2" inside diameter vinyl tubing in the plumbing department - also got a 1/2" barb, to join the new tube with the one already on the fule caister. I bought 4' to be sure I would have enough to put the catch bottle where I could watch it while operating the yellow drain lever - 3' would have been enough. The barb plus the tube cost about $2.

Mine would have overfilled one bottle. Better drink two or three.
