Fuel Economy

At the moment, I'm completely satisfied with the power on my pickup. The fuel economy is a different issue. I have already done the cold air intake and am looking for the most cost effective way to improve MPG without reducing power output.

I'm sure a lot of you have had experience in this area and would appreciate your feedback. From previous postings, it looks like my fuel economy is about where it should be for a relatively stock truck. Good maintenance, clean filters, tire inflation etc.

Thanks for your ideas!

Some people have modified the tone ring on the harmonic balancer to gain a couple degrees of timing, which seems to have helped mileage on many 3rd gen trucks. Do a search for "tone ring mod" - there were several threads dealing with it.

I'm thinking about getting a Honda Civic with a tow bar to pull mine around...

Yank that muffler. It will help, mine is up between 1-2 mpg. From upper 16's to the low 18's. A straight pipe sounds AWESOME.

Yeah, free up the intake and exaust. Good for about 1.5-2 mpg.
