Hello all. I must chime in here. I have friends who purchase fuel additives, ranging from 2 stroke oil to expensive treatments. They ask me what I think/do as they know I own several pieces of heavy equipment and on road diesel powered trucks. I've had direct injected and computer controlled injection. I've run these machines for hundreds of thousands of miles and put tens of thousands of hours on my off highway machines and have never used additives. I buy Chevron diesel when I can, their cetane rating is higher than other producers and it's always clean. I change filters at recommended intervals. Sometimes a machine may not be used for months but they always start and operate without trouble. In the early 90's when talk and implementation of low sulfur diesel was new in Ca many of us in the excavation bus. and road truck drivers were worried about injection lubrication but that proved to be unwarranted concern. Again thousands of hours/miles without failure can't be wrong!

This is good info and I thank you for it. It's real life results that can't be argued. Looking back, it is easy to see how these fuel additives were marketed. These companies capitalized on the ULSD fears to increase their profits. They helped to create and sustain confusion. Instead of taking a chance that this new fuel wouldn't hurt an expensive fuel system, people found/find it easier to just use the additives for peace of mind. Cheap insurance they say. That's what these companies want. They make a ton of money selling products that don't do what they claim they do. In fact, in many cases, they actually do the opposite (make the fuel dryer).

Don't feel bad, lots of people have been lied to including myself. And that piece of paper on the wall.....well, there's a difference between being educated and being smart.
