Fuel additives
I just dumped in some Power Service (supplement and cetane boost). I looked for the Diesel Kleen but they were out.
A friend of mine with more knowledge about these trucks uses it so I figured it must be a good thing. Just wondering if it works as good as the manufacturer claims it does. |

The "Kleen" has a Cetane boost of 4, the "Supplement" is a winter formula with antigel and a Cetane boost of 2.

I have a 2.5 gallon container that was given to me by an undisclosed source;) and it will treat over 3500 gals of fuel. Needless to say I only use a couple ounces when I fill up. It is Power Service Arctic Express. It says it prevents gelling and icing and lubricates pumps and injectors but says nothing about boosting cetane numbers. So I take it this is not the same 'Power Service' that everyone talks about on these forums?

my mistake- i misunderstood. on my bottles-the diesel kleen says cetane increase up to 6 and for the supplement-up to 4. my bottles are a couple of months old. i don't know if power service changed the cetane numbers

I am not convinced that any of these products do anything except make the manufacturers rich.
I tried running a couple of jugs of Power Service in one time. And, Later I ran some Synergyn stuff. Nothing. Didn't do a thing that I could tell. My truck has almost 50,000 miles on it and it runs great without running that stuff in it. Just good ole #2 diesel. Can somebody logically convince me that I should? |
I think when you hear all the people that are still running their stock vp44 with 150+k on the clock with additives in every tank.... thats enough for me to think the extra lube is worth the hassel

In my 2000, I used power service in every tank...When I sold it with 102,000 on the clock, it had the original VP44 and get this...the original lift pump! I read that several people had up to 3 lift pumps by that mileage, and possibly a VP44 change by then. I'm convinced the lube properties kept the pumps alive.[coffee]

You are correct. These additives are for parting fools from their money, with one exception,in extreme cold weather operations the anti-gel additives are effective.

when is it recommended to add anti gel to fuel below 30 f or lower this is my first diesel so im not sure
|
Believe in the additives or don't. I will lay money down on one thing. That using them will "not" hurt a thing.

Things have changed just recently with the new fuel and I guess time will tell who the fools are .[duhhh] As for me I have reach the conclusion to add something until the guys putting the high miles on give us some answers . As for anti gel there is plenty in the fuel with the winter blend and unless I got some southern fuel and then headed north it is not much of a problem . The book has not been written on this one yet but we should know in the next few months . [nonono]

you can add me on the fool list, i have no problem with that.

my truck sounds different when i dont put PS in it. evert tank gets half of a quart to help keep the doctor away.
