I love my CTD and its crude 4x4. Wouldn't have it any other way.

OOPs! I just made a post to another thread trying to resolve the front vibration issue.

If I'd known that Dodge had such an archaic system for locking the front end in then I'd have ordered mine with Manual hubs!!

At least I know they'd work and don't waste fuel or front end components.

Sort of like Hotel California... "You can check out, but you can never leave." In a different way, of course.

You can want lock-out's. You can hope for them. I suppose you can tell your dealer to order them... BUT YOU CAN'T GET THEM. There is no such thing right now and there may never be.

Maybe we should design an uncoupler for the driveshaft. Oil and bearings get toasty, but no shaft rotation or vibes.

By now this thread is getting pretty old. Some of us are sensitive about lock-outs, some aren't. It just isn't an issue with me as my truck doesn't seem to care one way or the other and I can't even feel the difference.

I agree that the auto locking hubs are unreliable, at least in my experience. Never had a problem with the manual type though, not saying they are perfect but pretty close. Keep them clean with fresh grease once every couple years and your good to go.

As much as I like the HD dodges I HATE the fact they don't have unlocking front hubs.

Someone should come up with a front driveshaft conversion like they have for the Honda fultime 4x4 quads. They have what they call a 424 kit available that the front driveshaft is splined and when you pull a lever it disengages it so they then are 2 wheel drive. This realy wouldent help us much because it would only eliminat 1/2 of the front driveshaft rotating, but an idea.

Just give me a set of plain old Warn hubs on the front wheels and I'd be very happy. No fancy vacuum axle disconnect, on one side only, nonsense. And I don't like the idea that the front gears are always turning. In perfectly clear dry weather I'm not going to have to suddenly reach down and have instant 4WD. But, the way it is now, the gears are singing along mile after mile, just in case. I'm perfectly capable of planning ahead enough to engage the hubs before driving into a mud hole, and if I'm not I'll get a little muddy.
