Front wheel bearing hub removal

I wanted to share my way of getting the front bearing hubs out. My truck is a 2003 with 94k and the steering UJs are shot. My truck has lived in the salt belt 1/2 of its life so I knew these would be a mother to remove. BOOO mopar for not using a good anti seize compound during build. Im sure it would have helped. Anyways, on the back of the 4x4 Hub theres 4 bolts holding the assy into the steering knuckle. I removed them and did 2 days worth of soaking with PB Blaster and KROIL and tapping with a BFH. Still no budge. So I reinstalled the four bolts, but not all the way. You want to leave bolts out about 1/2"-1". Lock steering all the way to the right (depending on what side you are working on). Then I put a socket on the top rear bolt to help protect it and used a combination of a 2 ton bottle jack and a then successful 6 ton bottle jack as shown in the picture. I applied hydraulic pressure from the control arm support on the axle directly to the bolt with the socket. Then smack the knuckle by the bolt. ( not bearing assy). In the picture, hit where the screw driver tip is. After 5-6 hits, I heard the hub break free. After that beautiful POP, I worked it out side to side with jacks, hammer, and an air hammer. Hope this helps someone cause I dont have $2k to pay a shop.



Placement without socket on bolt. Some have used the steering system and an extension but I didnt think that was good for tie rods, etc. My steering box is already dripping so I want to pass on that method.





Hit corner with Hammer where screw driver is pointing.





I WIN.





Lots to do yet but you get the pressing idea and the placement. This truck will get new UJs both sides as neither had a single needle bearing left. Ill also wire wheel, sand, and use ALOT of anti seize upon reinstallation. Lucky me all ball joints, rod ends, and hub bearing were good. For now.

Its a simple job if one didnt need to deal with frozen bolts and parts. In Hindsight, its worth the time during a tire rotation to pull things off BEFORE they freeze, and anti seize. Especially EZ to get to things like brake bleed nipples. Mine snapped and then I broke two quality EZ outs trying to get them. Grrr.
