Front U-Joints Questions
Front U-Joints Questions
Ok, bought my truck Dec. 31st, noticed a light ticking as I slowed down and it has gotten louder. So I go back to selling dealer had it looked at, said both drive axle U-joints are going bad and need to be replaced, but they want to split the bill of $590.00 with me! So I cornered the sales manager that told me it would be taken care of, he said that was the best he could since I had put 1200 miles on the truck before bringing it to them. and they couldn't fix it that day because they had to order the parts! So what does anyone suggest I do?? I talked to the sales manager again and he said he would try and knock some more off the bill, but I informed him that is not what I am looking for.
I don't have the time to do it myself, but I was concerned that it was little high if they weren't padding the bill so that I bascially have to pay the whole thing? They told me it was 6 hour job and they charge 65.00 an hour.

Well it was sold to me as a 1 owner truck, but found out(after sales) that it actually had two owners becuase it was inheirited by the last owner, thus I am third owner and no Power train warranty since it only transfers to 2nd owner! That is why I have been nasty to them about the deal in the first place plus they gave me a 30 day/1000 mile warranty. Called two other larger dealers and their quotes were a firm $460.00 for the job. The sales manager and I talked again today and said he will get the bill cut some more but he didn't give me an exact price. I offered to go a 100 and he didn't say no or yes to that yet. so we will see it goes in Wednseday
[QUOTE=Peterbilt;1917168]I had the driver's side replaced under the 70K warranty at about 67K miles. On a 4x4 it's part of the drive train. QUOTE]
seriously??? If I have an 80,000 mile engine and drivetrain warranty my "shot, as the dealer put it" u-joints should be covered under warranty.
also, the jerks at my dealership charge $120 an hour for labor...$65...that's a straight price!
so they claimed $360 b'c it's a 3 hr job. rip off...I'm tempted to go back and try and see if I can't swing it under warranty.

well got the truck fixed, they tried to charge me 590.00 for it but I handed them 2 quotes from 2 other larger Dodge dealers with quotes of 462 to 445. Ask for an expalination of the big price difference, finally had a sit down with the sales manager and dealership owner, I paid $100.00 and drove away.
