Searched the forum, basic question is this...

Have an '06 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L CTD with the 48RE transmission. We bought it as a left over, only has 750 mi on it.

We will be using it to tow a 34' 5'er, weighs approx 11,500#.

What would you folks recommend, mopar jake brake or Pac Brake that I've been hearing a lot of good things about?

PAC all the way, and I assure you, a large majority of the responses with be the same.
I have about 5K miles on mine and absolutely love it. Towed our 5'er at about 10,500 and now our boat (bumper pull) @ about 10K.

Call Lary at the DTR store, he is going to be about the best price you'll find around.

 

I've installed a bunch of the Mopar/Jacobs brakes. They work great.

 

Did you install your PAC yourself? If so, how difficult was it?

I did, all but about 10 minutes where I needed a third hand to hold the elbow in place while I fitted the band clamps back on.
Pretty straight forward install, took me a total of about 3.5 to 4 hours over 2 days, not counting the time I spent looking over the directions and checking out the parts.

 

I second the PACBRAKE. Mine is a manual tranny though. I had mine installed as I got a really good deal on it.

I went with the PAC as it has an air compressor and a 1/2 gallon tank that has attachments to do other jobs. The Jake works off vacuum and I have read reports of the diaphram rupturing and taking the vacuum pump out to the tune of about $200. Not sure if you will need any additional parts such as a TC lockup device or if that is only for trucks before '06.
