Excessive warm-up
 

It is -25 in chicago today with the wind chill. I had the truck plugged in over night and started it and ran the truck for 6 mins while it was still plugged in before i left. After a entire 55 min ride to work the truck did not warm up past the first mark. It would only push luke warm air, and if I would turn the air to high it would actual cause the temp guage to fall. Anyone else having this problem... I do not have a grill cover on it at this time. Just collecting info at this point. <br><br>Thanks guys

Yep I drove 30 miles yesterday night and the heater almost got warm enough to keep from getting frost bite. In weather like this you gotta have a grille cover to help the motor warm up.

25 below? whew...<br><br>Try turning the heater selector dial all the way counter-clockwise to the re-circ position. At least that way you aren't allowing fresh frigid air cross the heat exchanger (which acts as its own radiator). <br><br>It was only 15F last night and when I moved the dial off re-circ, the engine temp did move to the left.<br><br>Then again, you're 40 degrees colder. whew.

Hey Guys thats why they make &quot;weather cvr's&quot; for :o your grill, the expansion &amp; contraction of metals when exposed to drastic tempeture chg's is cause for premature wear (cyl. walls). Besides that it allows the heat-exchanger to exchange heat into the air (cabin heat) :-*I usually install mine in 40 deg. or less conditions that's Oct. for Kansas area. <br>CAUTIONIif you are running an auto tranny don't cover the external cooler in your grill could easialy overheat tranny<br>see ya,Ram Dude

Because I do have an auto, let me know so I nkow weither to hold on the purchase... thanks

Get the covers ... you'll be just fine as long as you don't leave them on when it's warm out ... then again warm to me right now would be anything above -20C! :o <br><br>And personally, I think the dodge ones are pretty slick! 8)

;D ;D<br><br> Has been very cold with heavy snow off and on here for the past 3 weeks. The new beast was not warming up very well so I put the stainlees steel grill inserts in. It has helped alot. It still takes longer to get to normal operating temp but at least it now gets there. It also helps alot I find to plug her in. Much easier on the battery, and it heats up faster. I never bothered with a timer I just plug her in and leave it then if I have to go somewhere she's ready to go. The factory block heater generates enough heat to the engine coolant to melt a little patch of snow off the hood. <br><br> I guess us folks that live in the northern zones are used to or more acustumed to the extremes of cold. When my wife and I venture off to Florida now and then I find the heat and humidity extremely oppressive. But like us to cold your aclimatized to it. It's a balmy -10 right now and the cummins is running fine. Pete

???Where are you guys finding your winter grill covers? I asked at the dealer and they looked at me like i was stupid. Thanks for your replies.<br> Jason
