I would like to put an electric fan on my 06 with an auto. trans. I don't want to do away with the factory fan, just add one for stop and go etc. The problem is that there is not much room between the radiator and grill. Anybody know of one that is thin enough to work in front? Thanks

I'd ask why?
If it's overheating, you have other problems and additional fan is not the answer.
The cooling systems on these trucks is very robust. Case in point, my kids when they were toddlers, smashed nearly every radiator fin (or whatever is first in the stack) over.
I'd say the front is 70% blocked from airflow straight thru.
This happened about 6 years and 80kmi ago and the truck has never run hot, whether it's loaded 20klb gcvw running up the Alcan Hwy, or towing a 6lkb boat through the desert in the summer.

The fan won't come on unless the ac is on. pulling a trailer across a muddy field the temp. will go above 215 unless I turn the ac on. I thought about wiring a switch to manually engage the fan clutch but thought maybe an electric one would be easier. If the clutch is bad it doesn't seem like it would engage when I turned on the ac. Thanks

Why do you think 215 is too hot? It isn't, works fine, leave it alone. If you were talking about oil temp above 220, we would be having a different conversation.

The air flow cools the radiator, of course. And, like he said, 215 is not too hot at all.

But, the fan also pulls air across the intercooler, transmission cooler, A/C condensor, and P/S cooler. At slow speeds and heavy loads the trans and P/S temps can spike up; and that's a bad thing. How are your trans temps?

Spal makes a couple of good pusher fans that are thin enough to fit behind the grill. Or, you could just replace the stock fan altogether with a big electric puller fan.

I used 215 just as a figure because the gauge doesn't really show much except 200 and then 245. The truck I think would melt down if you just ran it in deep muddy conditions, except if you force the fan on. This tells me the controller for the fan is not turning it on at 205 when it should. If turning the fan on by engaging the AC keeps it cool then in my option the fan is not moving air. If anything with the AC on it should run hotter. This is a work truck so I'm not asking it to do any thing the ford and gm trucks aren't doing. The truck never did this until a few months ago. Anyway thanks for all the replies.

Might buy the scanguage11 and get an accurate reading of the water temp.

I see my Tranny Temp all the time on the Attitude Monitor. It runs 100 degrees above ambient temp and a little all the time. It does not matter if I'm towing the rig or running without it.

What does matter is when towing, stop light to stop light, the Tranny temp
comes up quick and get to 235 or more. That's when I would like some additional cooling. I have washed out the radiator front to rear many times.

So I tend to tow away from metro areas as much as possible. Engine temp is reasonably stable. The fan does not come on for Tranny temp but it seems
does not react very well to tranny temp increases unless it sends the Engine temp up. The extra fan being up front would greatly help with the tranny temp increases caused by load being close to the tranny cooler.

That looks good. Do you do away with factory cooler or run both? Where can it mount? There is less that 2 inches up front to miss the grill. Thanks for all the replies.
