Any programs out there to buy that allows you to have access to the truck computer from a laptop?
Not nessecarilly to change things but to at least see what it is doing and to read the errors. I know other cars have these things and was wondering how common it is for the cummins. Other than getting the equipment from Cummins site is there anyplace else to get it?

 

Depends on what you want to do!

Some cars have tools like this. And most of these efforts are folks or companies that reverse engineer the ECU and then sell (or have freeware) software that allows you to change engine parameters. A friend has an LT1 'vette and can reflash his ECU and modify most all of the calibration tables.

I'm not sure how common this is on late model cars. Being able to modify your car, break it, then return it to stock and take it for warranty service isn't something they like. The common micros used for engine control are starting to see more and more features to protect the data contained within.

Cummins, last I heard, uses their own in house tool. And it's got some protections on it. I'd be curious if anyone has cracked it.

 

I saw an add for Superchip.com during the Craftsman Truck race yesterday that implied you could edit Dodge Diesel codes but their web page says Dodges 1998-2002 models only. More untruth in advertising I see.
