Engine Belts

I know this topics been discussed a few times but I found a good deal, and some new info.

Fan Belts!!!!

Yup we all need them. I own a 05 dodge, and I believe most of the 03’s to 06’s use the same setup (I believe) The stock belt on the truck is a Metric number 8PK3202, this is also a 4081261 Part number. This is the correct belt. Many places are selling the belt number 8PK3215 which is 4081265. That may not seem like much but that equates to a half inch longer belt. So when the belt stretches, you may not have sufficient tension on the belt since it’s longer than the stocker. (best way to make sure is to check your belt, it will have the numbers stamped right on it)

The good news. The wrong belt number (last 2) will run you between 50-80 dollars (depending on brand, ect) I believe at autozone it was 60 dollars for a Goodyear gatorback (which I really like). I went online to see if I could order the correct belt (stores said unable to order) so I go online to autozone, and what do I see. The correct belt, correct part number, everything price??? $22 bucks. I was like no way, so I ordered one just to make sure, and sure as heck it’s the right belt, length, everything. So I’m going to order another one as well. That’s not a bad deal on the belt, and I know the gator belts are pretty durable (I’ve always had good luck with them) I think because they use more of a synthetic rubber material, than the rubber/felt material most companys use.

I just thought you guys would like to know.

Thanks for sharing the info. It is amazing what they will hand out over the counter whether it fits or not, and a 200% discount isn't bad either.

Is that 4081261 number the Goodyear part number? It seems the Dayco part number's last 4 digit's are similar to the Goodyear. I assume that is a lenght measurement as the 4081265 part number is said to be 1/2" longer. So a question for all- Goodyear or Dayco? Who makes the stock for Dodge?

The part number 8PK3202 an 8PK3215 are more of an identification size than anything. The 8PK refers to 8 peaks or ribs and the 3202 is the size...typically 3202mm long as 3215 would be 3215mm long, 13mm difference would be 0.51" longer. Most new serpentine belts have the individual companies part number on it as well as this sizing system. So in other words to verify it is the same size the two belts would likely have the same 8PK3202 number on it.

He's dead on the money, the metric number is the way to go. The goodyear, mopar and all have different codes like the 4081261, 4 = K section belt, then 08 is the number of ribs, the 126 is length in inches, and the 1 is in 10'ths of an inch. Same principle, but metric is easyier.

Best bet is to look on the belt, and see what it recoments, or in the manual it should tell you. I've always had good luck with the goodyears, and they last. Seems the material is made out of a more rubber than some belts which seem like there a rubber/foam construction.

Not sure if it'll fit an 07, if it's the 5.9 it should, nothing changed. Check the belt, it will have numbers, even if you can find the mopar one, you can cross it. Genos should list it as well (like 03-07 models) or something.

Questions

Per Autozone the 4081265 is for trucks with A/C and the 4081102 is for trucks without A/C. So if I have A/C which one are you saying is the correct belt?

Thanks guys,
John

The belt I just picked up is #5081260

If 4 stands for "K" section belt, than....
What does the 5 stand for then?

shep1 - I think the Goodyear number for the EBrake equipped 5.9 is 4081295. However, I have not yet put the one I bought on, so I cannot be sure.

I'm all for good prices; but one place not to cheap out on is on belts. I've got first hand experience with buying a "cheap" belt. This was on my F350, and not the RAM.

The new one failed after about 50 miles, and I was pulling the boat. The part that saved me is having the old one on hand as a spare, but it was pain to change it out in the dark.

I think I'll be ordering a new one for the Dodge soon.
