Early/late 2005 engine differences

I'm finding bits and pieces of information about differences between the early and late 2005 engines.

Here is a list I've compiled thus far:

a) late 2005 passes injector signals in via a valve cover gasket ala Ford Powerstroke

b) late 2005 has a heater tube that goes behind the block. early 2005 heater tube stops between cylinder 5 and 6.

c) early 2005 uses a different injector than late 2005. Injectors supposedly non interchangeable.

d) early 2005 rated 600 ftlbs, late 2005 rated 610 ftlbs

e) late 2005 uses G56 and dual mass flywheel ?

f) Accelerator Pedal Position systems are different ? Late 2005 has the sensor mounted right on the accelerator assembly. Early 2005 has the sensor mounted under the left battery box and connects to the accelerator via a cable ?

Does someone have a better list than this or is there a document somewhere that outlines this stuff ?

There might be a difference in the breather filters on top of the valve cover too, but I can't confirm this.

Please add to this list if you know of other differences.

Question: some of these engines have a lift pump built into the filter housing. When did that change ? My early 2005 doesn't have a lift pump on the filter housing. Do the late 2005s ?

This might blur your early/late line a little but my 05 was built in Jan 05, the date on the Cummins is 1/11/05 and I have the NV5600.

The 2005's have a fuel pump in the tank!!! No lift pump!!! It only took them how many years to figure that one out?

does all the 600's have the lift pump in the tank

My 05 build date was 09/04 NV 5600. Engine rated at 610. Fuel pump in tank, APS mounted on pedal. Not for sure on build dates but all heater nipples was mounted in the top of the head.

How can you tell when the build date was? I looked in the glove box, but no sticker.. I have an 05, but have no idea if it is early or late?

Thanks

It is on the driver side of the motor where the plastic part that covers the head. Mine was mfg in Dec 04 and it has the NV5600 don't know about the rest have not checked yet.

The engine build date is on the engine valve cover, intake side. I don't know what the cut off date is between an early 2005 and a late 2005 engine. My engine was built 040804, which is August 4, 2004 and it was in a 2005 model year truck. Mine, apparently is a 600, not a 610. I've got the early injector harness, so I call my engine an early 2005.

I don't know if this is right or wrong.

"APS mounted on pedal."

Want to give a Dodge parts man a fit ? Ask him for a APS for a 2005. Right now the parts list shows none and I suspect it is because one is mounted under the battery (early) and the other is mounted on the pedal (late). I'm not totally sure about this. The two are NOT interchangeable.

"Not for sure on build dates but all heater nipples was mounted in the top of the head."

Does yours have a heater tube that goes behind the head, around to the back somewhere ? The early 2005s don't and it seems the later ones do. I'm not sure where it goes yet. I haven't looked closely at a lat e 2005 engine.

Engine build date 08/26/04 inj harness goes through the aluminum base. Heater return lines does not good behind the head.

Also the early 05's had a plastic intercooler, but they have now replaced it with a metal one.
