Early 2004 Rough idle, now no start

When warmed up the truck will idle rough at 750 rpm, if its in drive at a traffic light it is fine. If i raise the idle the smallest you can, the roughness goes away. By rough I mean misfiring, which cause the engine to almost run liking a loping Cummins. Only at 750 and only warm. Cold startup runs smooth. If I let it sit overnight it takes 3 seconds to start(longer than should but not awful). If I let it sit 24 hrs, it cranks 10 seconds before start. I let it go 3 days and now it wont start- I cranked(cycled the grid htr too) for 20 minutes- she wont start now. I just got truck- don't know any history. Bought it with problem, so now I have to get it going.

Also- if it is injectors- should I go with reman, new stock or new aftermarket injectors? The truck is the 235 hp Cali emissions model and I would like 400 hp eventually. It has 200k on the clock. Bought at used car lot, knew it misfired, dealer didnt know history.

Who makes good injectors and where?

When running, it has plenty of power and no misfire, just idle. Can I get to 400 hp with stock new injectors and a Smarty with the 235hp model?

Don't know which Lift pump it has either- how can I tell?

Thanks for reading my lengthy post.

Is your LP on the firewall or a retrofit in-tank version........either way turn the key to the on position without starting the truck and listen for the LP to whine. Check for codes and see if you have any. Check out this thread http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...e-t296691.html

I can hear the LP briefly run I think unless theres a vacuum pump that runs to charge the brake system. Not sure if my pump is in the tank or up on engine. What does the pump on engine look like and did they leave it in place when they retrofitted-if they did put it in the tank.
Also, would a lift pump cause a misfire at idle but supply engine well enough for normal acceleration power?

No codes.

Sometimes it takes quite a bit longer than 12 hours for the right people that know to see your thread.
48 to 72 hours without a reply is when you can cop an attitude. 12 hours and your thread is still young....

Pull the fuel filter and replace with a new one. After putting the filter back in check to see if you are getting fuel. Just leave the drain valve open. If you have the stock LP, you will have a LP mounted on the back of the fuel fitler canister, can't miss it.

Spooler, is the lift pump all the way around the back? I don't see it looking thru the wheelwell. I don't notice it, but there is one fuel line that heads behind the filter housing.

westcoaster- when the vehicle that gets you to work doesn't run, and your financially constrained like I am, you don't have 72 hrs hoping for advice. Times are tough here right now.

I did pull the fuel filter and it looked clean. I turned the key on and saw that the housing level rose. I think I have a functional lift pump thats in the tank.

Anyhow, after the filter change and 10-20 secs of cranjking she lit off. Test drove with no issues.

It still chugs at warm idle. I am gonna throw injectors at it since moone has said much about my warm idle.
I will see tomorrow if the hard starts come back. At least I got it closer to garage for now.
