E-17 recall B.S

Hey all, I took my 05 2500 into the dealership today to get my high idle enabled. When I got there I told the service manager to NOT perform the recall fix also I told the mechanic working on my rig to NOT perform the recall fix both said no problem. Well guess what??? they did the high idle feature and the bull edit recall. After a heated dispute the service manager informed me that BY LAW they have to perform the recall fix. I told them that had I known that I would not have brought my truck in at all. So beware of service BS when you take your rigs in. Thanks (I feel a little better now).

no by law if you refuse to have a recall performed, you are required to sign off stating so. I have had several people refuse recalls when I was writing service and there was a form we had to print off and have the customer sign and attach to the repair order.

Because it is one of the most annoying things you could have done to your truck.

The recall I assume he is talking about is the park/horn recall(don't know the exact name). But a while ago problems were occuring when people would put the truck in park, the indicator light was over the P but it wasen't fully in "park". The new recall just sounds the horn off non stop until it is put fully in park. Also if you have the door ajar and have it in reverse say backing up to a trailer, the horn will sound off like crazy aswell.

There are a couple of things you can do to prevent the horn from sounding off. I can't get full into it right now cause I have to head out but I will be back on later.

btw, I told my dealer I did not want it either as I was getting a head gasket replaced. They agreed & when I picked it up she honked like the rest of um'.

Yeah the park/reverse recall is the one I am talking about. It wouldn't be such a big deal but it doesen't fix the problem It just makes the truck sound off so you can get out of the way if it goes into reverse. I always use the E brake when I leave the truck idleing so It doesn't really affect me.

That is about the most retarded fix I have ever heard of. My brother bought a 07 and told me it did that while he was trying to hook up to the trailer. He said he is gonna cut the wires to the horns, he dont use a horn anyway. I said it will probably set off another set of codes like the lampout thing.

you can bypass the stupid thing by jumping the wires on your seatbelt plug on the drivers side under the seat.

And if you do jumper the wires in the plug under the seat you get an added benefit - the seatbelt chime won't ding at you anymore either when you don't have your seatbelt on !!!!

I use my seatbelt when driving on the roads, but around the ranch sometimes I like to have it off, easier to get in/out while feeding or unloading, etc. That bleeping thing IS REALLY ANNOYING, almost as annoying as having to use it several times every few hundred yards.

You can fix that darn seatbelt chime by programming. It's in the manual. Hook up, disconnect, hook up. Stand on your head. clap your hands and some other stuff. But it won't chime any more. Like the auto-lock of the doors, which can also be de programmed.

What year did they start the seat belt chime? My 03 dosen't chime at all, it just shows a indicator light on the dash.

I figured out a way besides jumping the wires to prevent the horn from sounding off. It's not realy a cmplete fix but it is easy enough to do/remember.

If you throw the truck in reverse and the door is open and you have your foot on the brake, your fine. As soon as you let completly off the brake it starts to honk. I found out that there is a certin amount of "play" in the break pedel that will prevent it from honking. You have to play with it for a minute until you find that spot in the brake, just ride the pedal with a little pressure and it won't honk. I know it's not a perminante fix but it does work, as long as you have a steady foot.

Same here, had my truck in for software updates and the dealer agreed not to do the recall. He said they don't even mention it anymore. Nobody wants it. Good think is I had a dozen or so updates to the software.
