Dupli color or herculiner spary-in bed liner?
 

My buddy owns a body shop but doesnt do Line-x, rhino...etc spary-in liners but obviously has what it takes to do one. I was looking at the Dupli color or Herculiner as a perfect replacement then paying $450+ for line-x. So I am wonerding if anyone has done either the Hurculiner Link or the Dupli color Link

I wont be doing the roll on, but strictly with the paint gun. If anyone has tried either of these (2) let me know, TIA

Well, to be honest, I believe that you get what you pay for.

Admittedly, the price of the Line-x/Rhino is pretty steep, but there are other things involved. Personally, I don't want to try to lay a straight edge with a piece of tape, since it has been years since I've done it. Additionally, their tape comes with a wire in it so that when you lift, it cuts a straight edge.

If you want to invest the time, or have your friend to it, I like the duplicolor stuff better. But either of those applications is more labor intensive a project that I want to get into. Heck, I hate wet sanding, and I can't imagine scratch padding the entire bed.

Again, JMNSHO......but, if you or he has the time, go for the Dupli....

Thanks, I already scuffed the whole bed down. I was reading about this on the forum and seems like people are having a peeling problem, the reason is b/c it wasnt scuffed good enough. Im young and I have nothing better to do right now, so I would rather spend a full day if needed to scuff the whole bed which I did yesterday than to pay $450+. Plus, I dont even use my bed, I just have a toolbox in there and thats it. I also will get a tonneau cover as soon as im done with the bedliner, this way in wont be exposed to anything and will still be protected, I looked at it this way:

$450= Line-X Bedliner
$400= Access Soft tonneau cover
______
$850

or
$39.99= DIY Dupli Color 1 gallon bedliner (body guy has all the matierals)
$400= Access Soft tonneau cover

$440

Since the bed wont even be exposed in the sun or water/snow and no one really goes in there unless I need to step inside to get something out of the toolbox, I think the DIY is great for me.

did the duplicoler spray in. Have to "touch up" frequently. I suspect it is because i did not Strip the surface of shine well enough before appling.

I have used both products in my truck beds and would say the herculiner is a better product.Make sure to you put on 2 coats for durablity.coobie :)

Yes,and more grit in the herculiner.Its seems to be more durable and does not chip as easy as the dupicolor.coobie :)

The only problem I have with them is they sell the whole kit which I dont need. I only need (1) gallon of Hurculiner like the Duplicolor sells, I dont need the whole kit which makes it $100

I did the hurculiner in my old truck and a line-x in my current. Spend the money for the professional version. The hurculiner wasn't horrible I just don't think it's nearly as durable as the line-x etc. I can tell you definitely don't get it on any skin. Removing with solvent was painfull.

I agree,auto stores around here will sell you just the 1 gal of herculiner without the complete kit.Check with some other auto parts stores.coobie :)

I really dont need it that bad though, how durable is it, I wont have anything in me bed except for a toolbox nor will I be using my bed for somthing serious, bricks, saws, engines.....etc Pretty much nothing major. Give me an example of what hurculiner can take and what it cant take?

go with the good stuff. i did the herculiner in on the floors of my mud buggy and liked it so much i decided to do my 12v bed. on a truck bed it is bad. looks cheap scratched easily and faded quickly. i did all the prep work as necessary it just is not as good as a hot applied spray in.

I know it sounds like a lot now, but think about long term. Why would you put a temporary patch on a 40K truck ? I have not seen a Duplicolor or Herculiner job that did not fade, peel, or just plain look like poo.

even I cover it with a cover and the bed wont even be exposed? And plus the bed will pretty much be empty the whole time.

Obviously, it's your call. I, as many others, would invest the extra money in a quality proven spray on liner. My dad had a Rhino color matched sprayed a year ago, and it looks as good as the day he had it done.
