driveline vibration
I drove 1.5 hours to a driveline shop that was open when the local one (45 minutes away) was closed for vacation. Paid ~100 for them to balance the shaft, and in the process, they removed that large weight just as you mentioned. Took the shaft home, and the vibration was worse, even though I watched them balance the shaft on their machine.
Took it back out, and went to the local guy. He re-welded a large hunk of metal in the same location, and re-re-balanced it. Perfect since.
So I got the shaft with the first guy, and the second guy balanced it right.
Take it somewhere else, or make them re-check it.
Secondly, there is a service bulletin about the 1st gen driveshafts needing shims under the hanger bearing, which corrects the alignment of the rear two piece shafts in the club cab trucks.
