Dreaded P206 Code
Dreaded P206 Code
On the freeway on the way to work Tuesday morning, about 3 or 4 miles after taking on 33 gal of fuel, the truck stuttered, missed, caught and stuttered some more. OK, ease off the pedal a bit, seems to help. A couple miles later, after a few hills, I took an exit and read the codes. P206, #6 injector not sending back the signal the puter expected.
I nursed it back home. Seems to drive ok if I'm below 1500 RPM or not under a load. Drove the wife's "Hello Kitty" Solara to work the rest of the week.
Today, I tested the injector from the outside connector after I cleaned the engine. They tested ok, but after reading someone tapping on their injector, I decided to open up the top.
OK, here is where I'm thinking what a pain it was to take out the injectors, especially #6. I sent all 6 to Don a couple years ago. I wouldn't expect them to go bad so soon. Then I thought hey, I just fueled up. Maybe I got some crappy fuel. Checked with the station, they haven't had any complaints, but I'll send a sample to the lab anyway.
Then, do I just send #6 back to Don or all 6, and mark #6 as the bad one. What a pain, and with SF in the game tomorrow, I have to get them all out today.
Got the lid off. The piece of material (sound proofing?) is leaning down onto the rockers, I can't even see #5 let alone #6.
I grabbed my wrench in my left hand and lifted the material with my right hand, reached way back almost to the radio, and when I got the wrench close enough to touch, the wire moved.
What? The wire moved? I put the wrench down and fingered the nut holding the wire. I must have turned it at least 2 turns before it was finger tight. I tightened it down a bit, not too tight, but tight as the rest (yes I checked). I didn't have the torque wrench I had 2 years ago. I'm thinkin since I was trying to torque it just right two years ago, and the location is pretty difficult to get to, I thought it was torqued. Guess it wasn't.
Now, put back together, codes cleared, road tested great, the wife gets that car back. I'm right at 249,000 miles and happy again.
I'm glad the injector is good.
I'm more glad the nut didn't fall into the engine.

Glad it turned out to be an easy fix for ya. No worries about the nut falling into the engine.....the connector and nut are made together to prevent such an occurance.
