differential additive

I have a 2004, quad cab, 2500, 4x4. I am curreently changing the differental fluid, manual says no additive necessary, (anti-spin differential). Since I have additive already, will it hurt to add it anyway? Thanks in advance, Jim.

If you are using a good GL5 rated differential gear oil, I would say leave it out. Your gears don't need it according to Chrysler and AAM. Putting it in may mess up/dilute the chemistry already in the good diff. oil. My 2 cents.

Like Texas said, don't need/use it. It will thin out the gear lube to some extent.

If you mean that the fluid you purchased already has the additive in it, that's fine. Go ahead and use it. This information was provided to me by Redline, and I respect their opinion. If you mean that you purchased the additive and intend to add it with the gear oil at the time you do the fluid change, don't bother. It's for minimizing clutch chatter, and you have no clutches.

Well Red Line just told me this FWIW when I asked them basically the same question:

Matt,

Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, in your Dodge Ram used primarily towing I would recommend the 75W140. It would be well suited for your use and range of temperatures. The 75W140 contains a friction modifier, though not needed for the limited slip is beneficial for friction and temperature reduction.

Regards, Dave
