Different Engine Break-in Question

I have just over 2500 miles on my '07. I know it is best to load up the engine to get everything to seat properly. I bought my truck to haul a big Lance camper, as well as a daily driver. With snow and ice covered roads I do not want the camper on it.

I have thought of buying three thousand pounds of 1-1/2" (1-1/2 yards or so) of rock that I can leave in the bed then use for landscaping in the spring.

Any other ideas?

Personally I wouldn't worry about it too much......thousands of these trucks get broken in by just driving every day, it will be fine. And I don't like hauling anything in the bed loose, especially heavy stuff. If somebody was to pull out and you hit them, the sudden stop could throw whatevers in the bed into the cab with you. I have personally seen a guy that is M.R. now because a log came through the back window and hit him in the head.

In the winter time I wouldn't ride around with rock/sand in the bed. I found that even a little moisture in it caused it to become a solid mass (and in Alaska you pretty much stuck with it like that until you could get it into a heated garage to free it up. Also, the obvious is that you won't be able to use your bed for the entire winter. And the extra weight will cause your mileage to drop and wear you tires slightly faster. I always bagged up about 1000 pounds of gravel in sandbags and carried it around to offset the weight of my plow. If I needed it for traction it was always there... Just my .02

Good points. The amount of rock I am talking about does not come up to the top of the bed rails.

Thanks gents. Admittedly the dumbest question/idea I have ever posted on any forum.
