Decissions Decissions

Hi all,

I haven't really read up until a few days ago, but I've read a few hundred posts about the 3rd gen trucks. I'm about to trade in my Jeep and get me a nice CTD, but am having problems deciding. I test drove a 04 (555) 6-spd quad cab shortbed 3500 today, and was I impressed! I really had my heart set on a 4.5' 2500 std. cab long bed 4x4, but I can get a great price on the 04's, but the 2500 will have to be brought in from another dealer. I definetly don't want a duelly, as I don't need the extra carrying capacity, plus all they had was quad-cabs, which is out of my price range. The question is, I had built the 04.5 of my dreams on dodge.com, it came out to 33 after the 2,500 cash back, but i'm sure I can get it for alot less since my uncle's a service manager at the Dodge dealership. My question is, I plan on bombing, without a doubt. I also understand that the 600 has some problems, as I've read every thread on the subject accross 3 message boards. For the easiest way to get power, and I don't mean 600hp, just enough to have some fun :brows: , which would be a better choice? The 555 or 600? Sorry for this Novel of a post. And Merrick, Imma give you a call later on around 6ish.

GET 555! It does not have a CAT. 600 does! There are many choices of perf. boxes for 555 , none I know of for 600( unless you want your $40,000 truck to be the ginny pig). 555 does not have all the valve clatter that 600 does. You will not be subject to any future emmissions testing with 555 , since it was built before Jan.1,04. I ordered a 555, but got a 600. Five trips to service so far, 6 new injectors.

decision

if it was me , I would get the 600, better valves and valve seat , your not hearing valve clatter , same adjustment as the 555, you get better piston cooling nozzles , you get a better turbo that put out over 36 psi , 555 only put out 25 psi , a better motor over all , I have one , I also work for Cummins , dont have the vibration , or misfire , my mileage is about 16.5 with 4X4 shortbed , and that is good for me.
