Death Wobble questions
Death Wobble questions
Ive been getting bad death wobble on my 03 and so far Ive replaced the left hub assybly, the track bar the a thuren adjustable, skyjacker leveling springs and shocks. I was hoping the track bar would fix it but it didn't. How do I tell if my ball joints are bad and if they are what special tools do I need to replace them.
Thanks, Cooper

This subject has been addressed many times and I can't add much about replacing ball joints but...look into a steering gear box bracket. Several different brands available and some are listed on ebay. The link below is the one I bought and in combination with an adjustable track bar and a correct alignment, the 'death wobble' is now gone!
The location of the steering gear box so far forward on the frame without solid mounting support is the main reason many of these one piece front axle 4x4 trucks suffer the shaking effects of the 'wobble'. When the vehicle is introduced to road vibration while driving at speeds usually above 45, the vibration is amplified significantly into the frame from the front axle shifting side to side. This action transfers into the steering box and right up the steering shaft.
These steering box brackets support/tie the front frame rails and gear box together eliminating this vibration effect. The consequences of this repeated wobble result in premature wear and failure of ball joints, tie rod ends, steering gear boxes, ect.
