Dead ECM?

I'm still trying to track down a power problem that feels like the engine is defueled. Runs perfect (with reduced power) up to 2,000 rpm and won't go past. This is a 2005 HPCR with a 48RE in a '68 F##d F250. We've looked at all kinds of things - disconnected speed sensor, etc and none of them seem to the culprit. The guys at ATS suggested that perhaps the ECM is fried. It can pull codes, watch the values on my Auto Scan II, and reprogram with Smarty (with no effect at all) and when I took it to the Dodge dealer yesterday to try to get the ECM reflashed they could not connect to the ECM. Is is possible for the ECM to stop working and the truck still run?

sounds like a communication error, if need be I could bench flash it for you

and it sounds like you have the wrong software calibration installed.

Have you spoken to Destroked?

Big thanks to Destroked and Bob Wagner who helped me out on this.

Yes, this is a 'limp' mode that the ECM will fall into.

Reprogramming the ECM from an automatic version to one for a manual transmission solved all my problems.

Both Destroked and Bob spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me to nail down my issues - and charge me nothing. Their experience and help was invaluable.

Thanks

Peter it was my pleasure to help you. I really love to see these Cummins conversions come to life. I always appreciate the comments once the Cummins come to life.
