de-modding..

im thinking about de-modding my truck. take the smarty off it and sell it, maybe take the FASS off it, maybe even take out the gauges. unsure, just dont want the sh-- anymore. i honestly dont want the truck anymore. but i have invested too much money, too fast into it that its not worth selling it right now. ill leave my tranny in it, cause im not going through that swap again. lift and tires can stay on it, rims too. but everything else can come off it- the intake can stay and possibly the gauges once i move them. i dont know what hit me- but i just dont use 1/2 of the crap and i figured i might as well get some of my money back for it. look for a smarty in the FS section soon.

sorry for the rant... anyone else ever go through this phase? ive had the truck for approx. 8 months.

Sorry to hear that. I know they can be frustrating. What are you gonna do when you sale it? Want to trade for some factory wheels. Those H2' look sharp.

Paroxysm, if your serious about de-modding your truck, than do it. I have been contemplating it myself, but every place I have gone to get rid of the truck I have gotten low-balled and at one place I felt insulted at the price they gave me. I need to have a truck because of my side business or else I would be driving a Maxima or something that gets 25mpg highway.

i cant really get rid of the chrome h2s right now- i just bought a set of new procomp 35" xats... so i would sell those as a package and would hope to get at least $1k for those. but as of now im only taking off stuff i dont really need- smarty, possibly the FASS.

Take a deep breath.........ok. My advice is to hold on to what you have, and maybe not buy anything more until you need it. There is a lot keeping up with the Jones' here, and it's easy to think you need to have this or that, but all you really need is to make your's work for you.

The things you are talking about do serve a useful purpose for you and your truck. With the Smarty, you may not need the extra power, but you can adjust for your tire sizes. You can also read and clear codes. Those two things there may save you a trip or two to the dealer. And your Fass may save you a breakdown on the side of the road.

I'm still slowly modding my '03, one part at a time when I can afford it, (money wise and the earful I get from the wife). I try to keep it to the things I need, and maybe want a little.

I agree with 2003Ram. Just keep it and quit modding it for now.

Even if you sell all your mods, you are only going to get a fraction of what they cost you. And if you sell the truck, you will take a bath on it too.

Just keep it and drive it and enjoy it. Stop spending money on it......or losing money on it by selling it.

I think that it's gonna get tougher and tougher to sell diesels unless the price of fuel goes down. It's been stuck at 4.00 +/- around here for the better part of a month.

Ah, I see that I am contagious. I must have given you my Demod disease when we shook hands a while back. I apologize. Everybody else stay away from me.....

I am very happy with my stock truck but I do have 350/650 on tap. It's getting harder and harder to justify spending all that money on toys when it costs so much just to drive these beasts........

I have too much into my truck and am so close to paying it off, that I will probably just keep it until it dies. No more mods planned for the future, just a new set of tires in the fall.... Just costs way too much to run these trucks and you don't get good prices selling them because of the fuel cost. Good luck in your decision!

I still love my truck, AD going on soon.
If you think only in terms of the "investment" you'd probably never have bought one of these in the first place.
I'm not putting my mortgage money into this thing, only "extra" money from working overtime and I'll have this thing a long time. Hope to go easy with the Crazy Larry though or I'll be looking at a new clutch, a few more hours of OT to pay for that...
