Cummins ULSD Lift Pump Warning

I just saw a post in the Class A section over on rv.net about this and wondered if anyone else had seen it or knows if it effects the 3rd gens with the lift pump in the tank.

Bulletin applies to the old school VP equipped trucks like mine.....but I have replaced a couple lift pumps in the last two months that were leaking and I noted last week mine is starting to "weep" from the electrical connector.......interesting.

J BODY, the more I read about the problem with the Class A diesel pushers it does appear to be those with the external lift pumps. Bad part about that is there sure are a lot of them out there.

i was at the dealer today to get a new lift pump for my 03 and they advised me that the replacement lift pump is a kit that moves it to the fuel tank, i asked him why this is and he gave me some bs answer. i've decided to go with the glacier replacement over this stock problem pump.

This is last updated in August of 2005. It would seem that we may about to see this start showing up if it is going to. I would think that if this was a big problem we would have already been seeing it somewhere.

How long has CA been using ULSD? I know I just saw the stickers on the pumps for ULSD here where I fuel sometime in October.

Now I need to start watching for this? If I see any signs of problems I too will go with the Glacier system.

It looks like someone made that up. "customers ought to consider replacing the lift pump as well" Now that doesn't look like good grammer to me, sounds like someone is pullin a fast one to PO us Cummins owners. Maybe a Troll made this up.
what ya'll thunk?

Would someone post some more info about this Glacier pump? Perhaps post a link?

Are referring to the post I made about it or the link I posted about the problem? I will be glad to put a link on here to the post about it over on rv.net. Evidently Cummins has already replaced some lift pumps on some diesel pusher motorhomes that have had the problem.

Check out www.glacierdieselpower.com He sells a good aftermarket pusher pump setup. And a bunch of other good stuff.

No Hunter11 i'm not talking about you.
the attached PDF just looks kinda fishy, if you know what i mean. Could be made up or could be real, who really knows.
I personally haven't heard of any problems like described, but who knows what the future has in store for our trucks. I'll just keep adding the PS to every tank and keep my fingers crossed.
I'll keep an eye on my LP and let you know.

....the document is aimed at VP EQUIPPED ISB ENGINES!!! I realize this is posted in the 3rd gen, but it is NOT aimed at the fuel system on the common rail trucks. The lift pump in the text is the one that mounts to the engine back and below the fuel filter canister.

That is a actual document from Cummins, Early Warning bulletin. like J Body says , it only affect pumps with edge molded gaskets , such as the VP44 lift pumps. not the Common Rail engine lift pumps. you can replace just the gasket in these pumps. very easy 3 bolts and done
