Cost to run the block heater....

Can anyone tell me what the wattage is on the 6.7's block heater? The last 2 months' electric bills are up over last year by app. 11 kwh per day. The only "new" thing that I can think of being "run" is the block heater. That increase almost matches what it dropped when the hair dryer user finally left for good.
Maybe I need to clean out the garage so that I can start parking inside.....

i imagine it is the same heater on the other 3rd gen trucks-which would mean it is a 750 watt heater-which works out to 6.25 amps

I think if you leave it plugged in for hours at time then you would notice it on the electrical bill. Do you have it on a timer? Before I had a garage I would have it turn on for two hours before my departure. And that was enough to make it start easier even when the temps were near or below 0 degrees F.

I understand it to be around 7-10 bucks a month if plugged in nightly.

I don't recall our rates locally, but here is a Calculator.

www.handymath.com/cgi-bin/electric.cgi?submit=Entry
Electricity Cost Calculator

EDIT: Wow was I wrong...My best case would be about 24.00 per month at 10hrs per night every night. I am always over on my allotted amount.

This month...

362.5 X .11430 (Baseline allowed)
108.75 X .12989 (1st tier over baseline)
253.75 X .22609 (2nd tier over baseline)
31.0 X .31502 (3rd tier over baseline)

So it would actually equate to 230 X .31502 = $59.07 a month (10hrs nightly minus Saturday night and sometimes minus Friday night)

OUCH!

Ummmmm... 11kwh/750 = 14 hours and 40 minutes? So, if you have your heater plugged in an average of over 14 hours a day, then it probably is what is raising your lectric bill. It may be time to think about investing in a HD timer so you get about 2 or 3 hours a day on the days you want to drive.

Wow...all I can say is if you have your electric bills for last two years and can compare the usage per day I have to hand it to you. With a 8 y/o girl and a 13 y/o girl who won't turn off lights or close doors my bill goes up and down so much I have no idea how much more it costs to plug in my truck.

Oh I almost forgot the wife that gets cold so she ups the thermostat in the house a couple of degrees and doesn't tell anyone.

That is, in other words, what I said that was edited off the site. If you have the time and patience to study your bills that closely, then have a good time. I have other things to do and worry about. If that is the case, what's $10-$20 as long as I am warm, can watch tv and my truck is plugged in and ready to leave if I need to in a hurry? It's not that big of a deal to me. If that offends someone on here (another member, administrator etc) then so be it. Go ahead and delete this post too.

You are exactly right about the kids, especially this time of year. To see their faces light up when they open their gifts. There is not a better feeling in the word. I have a 5 year old daugher and an 11 month old son. I found a site where you could have your children send a letter to santa last night and I told my daughter and we wrote him an email. Well, they send a response letter (from Santa back to your child after a few minutes). I told her that Santa wrote her a letter back. She came running through the house as fast as she could. They have started reading at school now (she is in kindergarten) so I told her to read it to me. She got to where Santa said that he checked his list and she was on the NICE LIST again this year (I don't think he has really been watching if that is the case ) but she reads that and screamed "Mommy I'm on the nice list, I'm on the nice list". It was great to see her so excited. Kids are fantastic, even when you they do something they shouldn't.

If the elec. usage is a concern just use a timer set it to go on 3 hours before you leave (or more/less depending on outside temp) and your good to go.

"when the hair dryer user left for good" I can relate, too funny
