Clutch adjustment or on the way to SBC?

How much free play should the clutch peddal have? I have only 20K on the truck and just installed the superchips performance program and I am getting slipping in 3&4 grear.

The peddal seams to start to disengauge the clustch within about 1/2 to 3/4" on an inch from the top of the peddal. I'm thinking it might need more freeplay so the clutch in fully engauged and it might stop the slipping.

The truck is used to tow pretty light at no more than 10,000 pounds. It's only happend a few times under hard acceleration but it's only a matter to time that this will glaze the disc and check the flywheel and pressure plate.

Any thoughts?

BTW the Superchip woke up quite an animal and I like the smoke! Just want to make sure I don't cause an early repair that could be avoided.

I will definilty upgrade the clutch if necessary.

I've searched around these forums and don't find and adjustment info on clutches. Am I on a wild goose chase that only a heavy duty clutch will resolve?

There is no adjustment for these hydraulic clutches. I recommend calling South Bend Clutch as ask about their single disk conversion for the G56.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll have to restrain my foot(that going to be hard) for a while and get going on the new clutch.

I've looked around and looks like I might want to go to the 13"?

Any suggestions on the material? I think I will not mod beyond 450HP so I am thinking the Con/OFE.

Any suggestion on where to get one?

Con/OFE is what you want.

Its too bad the older truck wouldnt require that you purchase a new flywheel since they had 13" flywheels.
That all changed when Chrysler had the great idea to change to the Dual Mass Junk and G56 tranny.

Talk to Peter at SBC and you'll be happy with your purchase. I spoke with him before I purchased mine and he informed me that the new OFEs will hold closer to 525 and told me that was what I needed. I'm not sure about the clutch for the G56 but its something to look into

Yep, back in the good old days Dodge trucks had a flathead six and a three-on-the-tree. That all changed when some young whipper-snappers at Chrysler had the great idea to change to a new-fangled Cummings motor with no sparkplugs and now there all just junk....

Them real Dodge trucks would do a full pull every time and never ever broke down.......

That will definitly work for me. Yea the 13" thing is a bummer but I guess you have to pay to play. I've set it back to tow performance for now so I don't keep burning the clutch every time my foot looses control.
