Changes for '05?
 
I've heard there's a new 6-speed called the G56 and I've also heard there's a new lift pump too.

Folks say if the G56 is a GETRAG there'll be problems. Any comments?

The G56 will be available later in the '05 model year. The lift pump is located in the tank now.
I looked a several '05 Dodge Cummins at a dealer while my truck was in for a new P/S pump and hoses last Tuesday in Kerrville. The only way I can tell it's an '05 is the Ram Head badge below the tailgate handle.

Why would they put the lift pump in the tank? Do they expect a longer lifetime out of the new ones?

I guess it's better to push the fuel from the tank rather than pulling it from the engine. To me it's a mixed blessing cause it's easier to change the front pump rather than dropping the tank, etc. Fuel in the tank does help cool the pump. My .0.

Yes, the Sun Roof is now an option, however the 7 speaker infinity stereo was available in 03 because I've got one[laugh] [laugh] :D

In 03 it was a 6 speaker system, I had it in the 99 and now the 04.5.

I also heard DC bumped the horsepower to 610. Any ideas on how that came about?

Sounds like replacing a troublesome fuel pump which seems to be a common problem is gonna get more expensive.

I think you mean torque.......

We still have pump problems on the 3rd gens??

Yep, I meant torque.

I've read about lift pump, not fuel pump problems. I'd heard there was a new lift pump in the '05's.

Just trying to dispel the rumor with fact.

GM gassers have in tank pumps. They seem to hold up well over 100,000 miles consistantly. Be nice if they just used an engine driven fuel pump.

Dodge gassers are in tank as well, Filter and all. Mine held up to 200k on a 360 gasser. Of course my fuel system is holding up on the 99 diesel too

I've read that pushing the fuel is easier on the pump than pulling it with an electric pump. I had a F250 with the pumps in the tanks and with 140,000 miles they are still working (my son bought the truck). I was over on the Cummins site last night and they say you should have a filter before the lift pump on the "B" engines. If the pump is in the tank then it will have one.

If a fuel pump is properly engineered it should provide a good service life whether it is pushing, pulling, in the tank, out of the tank, or whatever. Of course the key phrase here is 'properly engineered'...

There's one more thing I forgot to mention about the '05s. The aftercooler is different compared to the '03-04 models. I swear it looks like the end caps are made of plastic.
