I have noticed that on my 05 CTD when I am really getting on it and it hits about 3K RPMS and then shifts into the next gear the RPMs dont drop down much at all. Is that a good thing or bad?

I beleive that would be the ECM dropping the engine power momentarily while the engine shifts so it doesnt destroy the forward clutch plates.

Called torque managment I believe.

Its either that or you have another problem, but I venture to say that its the ECM doing its job.

well its good and bad on stock trans its good because it wont break flywheel, shafts, but bad it will try and smoke clutches, and build alot of heat, but more then likley you have the Diablo turned up and it is driving thru the T.C. You need to do the trans and T.C. will fix your problem. you could put a lock up switch in there for the T.C. but you will sure break something then. Do the trans now before you fry all the clutches

What do you mean do the trans now? As in rebuild it? THe truck only has 21K miles on it. I will get it fixed under waranty if anything happens to it.

It is normal,you are running a stock tc,it absorbs quite a bit of the input shaft speed difference on the shifts.A tighter tc would make you feel a bigger drop in rpm when it shifts.As you add power,you feel the wide open shifts less and less,as you start to "pull thru" tc more and more as power goes up.

Reducing power/torque would make the RPM's drop, not hold up high like that.

It's just good 'ol Dodge TC slip. My 1st gen is so bad you can floor it from a stop and it will go through all the gears without the RPM's even moving.

Its the converter. First thing any Dodge Cummins owner should replace. The stock is just taking all the power away from the tranny. Do a converter and VB. I should have done it the first day I bought this truck.
