Carrier Bearing Again...How too???

Seems every winter I get that "Howl" under my truck when its cold from the carrier bearing. And every year it gets replaced under warranty. Well, it's back again and I would like to fix it for good this time. Two questions:

1. Whats involved in changing this bearing?
2. What's the best way to stop the "Howl" from comming back?

Thanks....

Mine has a howl also. Does yours just do it for a second or two, and then go away? Seems to do this howl only when accelerating/deaccelerating.

My truck has done this since new (but worse when its cold), and the carrier bearing (actually the entire drive shaft) was been replaced and it still does it.

Just wondering if its worth the bother to take it to the dealer or is it another chronic problem that never goes away, and the dealer tells you (essentially) its "supposed to do that."

Also just for your info, I found a driveline company that sells a carrier bearing that has a urethane support instead of rubber, may be an option. I will have to dig around for the website.

I usually get the howl around 25-35mph when it's below 30 degrees. I get it both accelerating and decelerating. I have had the dealer replace it three times. It goes away for a while but always seems to come back in the following winter. Let me know about that urethane support.
