Can a Trans from 07 4wd Work in 04 2wd???

The question is not only can it drop right it but what if the transmission is from a 4wd 3500.. can it be directly swapped into a 2wd 2500??

I am not looking to convert 2wd to 4wd so please dont misunderstand.. I am simply looking to see if i buy a trans from a donor vehicle that is 4wd can it be swapped into my 2wd.. Thanks for the info.. I searched but couldnt find a direct answer..

The backhalf of the trans if different since it bolts to the transfer case on the 4x4. Some of the parts will interchange though.

Swap the OD units between the two and use the 04.5 TV cable lever and it will work fine.

The Out drive halves (back half/Tailshaft) needs to be swapped out between the two trannys and it will work,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, as long as you use the 04.5's TV Cable lever (whatever that is!!!!!)

What he said.

The overdrive is contained in the back half of the trans or tail shaft, and just referred to as the OD unit.

The 05 and newer trucks had a throttle valve motor instead of a cable like yours to control TV pressure. You need to take the linkage and levers off of yours and swap them over to the new trans if you do it.

FYI, if you do this swap its a good idea to have a professional trans shop swap the OD units to make sure the clearances get set correctly in the OD clutch pack. If they aren't correct there will be issues.
