Broke camshaft?

Hello, My truck died on the way to work, it sounded like something broke and then shook to a stop. When I tried to restart it sounded like timing was off and wouldn't start. The only code I had was a P0341 which came earlier (I just replaced cam position sensor, but it was still intermittently throwing that code). I pulled the valve cover off and turned the engine over and only the rockers for number one were moving. I am guessing broken camshaft. Does this sound right. The engine has less than 50k on it. Thanks for any input!

Unfortunately my warranty ended in June! And what makes it worse is the engine was replace at about 20k and there's only 55k on it now.

I hope he is still under warranty, depends on when the purchase was made for the 5 years. Think about what the non-moving valves in 2-6 were doing while the engine was winding down, not to mention the attempt at restart.

Look in your warranty book. Engine is covered under 7 years 100k miles. I could be wrong for your model year, but mine is.

On mine (2006) the Cummins Diesel engine warranty is 5 years or 100k mile. It's funny though, when my dealer replaced the engine it had an oil leak which they found to be the camshaft seal. When they replaced it, it leaked worse. When they looked at it again they found that their mechanic put the seal in wrong. Now my camshaft appears to be broke?

I would call Dodge customer service and nicely explain the chain of events, they may help you out.

Call Dodge. This was not good for the valves. No doubt you have some bent or broke ones. This was not good.

In 2006 Dodge started the 5 year 100K warranty, 2005 was the last year for 7 year 100K warranty.
