Brass port on factory '03 turbo

I'm sure this is a dumb question, aren't they all. Stock '03 5.9 HO w/6sp. Was looking underneath engine and noticed a brass fitting in turbo housing. It looks like it use to be a 90* barbed fitting. But the barbed part is broke off and it's an unplugged hole. Truck runs fine. Can hit 27 psi for a second. Is this hole supposed to be there, plugged, ported to someplace, etc....truck has old, original, Diesel Dynamics "Power Puck" put on by Diesel Dynamics in '03.

Thanks in advance for being easy on me

The elbow is part of the waste gate system. When I installed my Edge EZ, I replaced the elbow withe the supplied elbow which allows more boost before the waste gate opens. I bet the person that installed yours probably broke it off or stripped the threads when swapping it out to install the puck.

This straight out of the instructions for the EDGE EZ...

The installation of the brass elbow permits turbo boost pressures of greater
than 20 psi without the wastegate opening. The Power Edge EZ Module will
operate equally well with or without this installed.
Good luck.

On your "Edge", is it an open port though? Or does it have any type of line running from it?

There is a hose that runs from the elbow on the turbo to the wastegate actuator on the inboard side of the turbo. Here is description of the wastegate system from the service manual:

The turbocharger also uses a wastegate, which regulates intake manifold air pressure and prevents over boosting at high engine speeds. When the wastegate valve is closed, all of the exhaust gases flow through the turbine wheel. As the intake manifold pressure increases, the wastegate actuator opens the valve, diverting some of the exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel. This limits turbine shaft speed and air output from the impeller

I'm glad I could help.

If you search "boost elbow" there are plenty of discussions on whether there is a benefit to using the aftermarket elbow. When smog checks became required in CA I broke my aftermarket elbow off trying to remove it before the test. I replaced it with the original one and have not noticed a difference.
