Boost fooler on stock truck?

I was wondering if a boost fooler on a stock engine would be worth the money. I've read that they'll lower egt and may even increase mpg slightly.
If it is a good mod can you still run the stock intercooler? Also would I need to get a CAI or would the stock intake be ok? I'm just wondering because they're not too pricey and even if all it does is lower egt's it would be worth it IMO. Also would a boost fooler alone void warranty?

If you got an 04.5-07 (electronic waste gated turbo), it will raise the opening waste gate pressure to 42lbs, compared to the stock 34. It will also keep an over boost code from being set. It will work on 03 & 04 (mech. waste gate) but it will only prevent an over boost code from being set.

on a stock truck it made mine go up to 35psi, compared to the 28psi before. Didn't really notice any difference though. But for 50 bucks its good to have to stop the codes

...That all depends on the dealer ....I`ve heard of dealers trying to deny warranty claims because of a cold air intake , and others replacing entire engines with all kinds of goodies still hooked up to them

I am getting ready to install one, you can pick them up on Ebay cheap sometimes. It would seem like it would help with acceleration under some circumstances.

Not really on a stock truck with stock turbo. I took mine off and noticed no change in times.

I bought one last week and put it on my stock 04.5. Didnt really notice any difference in peak turbo press. Still spikes up to 32psi then falls off to 29 or 30psi. I bought with the hopes of lowering egts. I dont have any data to show the changes but I have done a Muffler delete and the boost fooler and I dont think I wait as long for the egts to cool down. I suppose maybe a programmer is next. I was thinking of getting the max mileage to go along with the boost fooler, but that seems redundant considering the Max Mil. is capable of boost fooling. So my other thought was on just buying the smarty Jr.

I noticed more peak power, but low end felt like it was hurt. Much lower performance. I figured that since it is fooling the computor up top it is fooling it down low as well, so maybe it doesn't put in the normal amount of fuel since it thinks it has less boost. All I know is it hurt my truck down low big time.

Lowered my egt's for sure, I tow heavy and it was an honest 75-100 degrees cooler!

pretty much unnoticable on stock trucks unless you tow heavy..then just lower egt's at higher rpms....i can't imagine gaining much if any power with it....the roktech timing sensor is also a good mod to lower EGT's. I would expect any dealer to void, or not honor your warrenty if you brought your truck to them with ANY mods.

I have one for my stock 05 auto. I use it when pulling something because it lowers egt's and holds the overdrive gear better on hills and all around better performance and speed. I don't like it unloaded or around town. I talked to quad, and they confirmed it is an accross the board lowering of boost readings. So the truck will basically see no boost at lower rpm. I like it when towing, a lot.

Second note, all around spool and cooldown are much faster.

It will only do anything when you get to about 28-32psi... without the fooler the stock 04.5-07 5.9 will peak to 32 then fall off to 28-30 with light load and 30-32 with heavy load. With a fooler you will hit about 34-35 on a stock truck. So it will help cool a little, and maybe 5-10hp... maybe... It will not affect mpgs, or normal acceleration, driving... only heavy throttle use... where stock would utilize the WG.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was kinda wondering because it seems like a cheap and easy mod. If I'm correct it's plug and play on my truck so I could unplug it with no trace of it being there? It's funny that they would void warranty over something that could be potentially good for the truck. I mean lower egt's in theory would lengthen the life of the turbo. I guess they could argue that increased pressures could be harmful. I'd like to have a programmer and other goodies but this truck is my daily driver so my warranty is pretty important to me. I need this truck to last along time so I'm stuck with small mods that'll do no harm and leave no trace. I thought maybe a boost fooler fit that bill.Oh well I'll be able to play alittle in another 70,000 miles!

A boost fooler as others have said will help on the top end to hopefully keep your EGT down.

You certainly can take it off if you have to go in for service. A lot of that depends on the dealer though. Some would give you a fit about the muffler, silencer ring and tube guts being gone too. Some may say thats a sweet deal and let you get by with more.

I've heard the Quadzilla boost fooler is one of the best.

I like your handle, are you a lineman?
