Block Heater Cord...
Block Heater Cord...
I just picked up my new truck last Friday. I posted here a while back about the block heater not being standard. Someone replied that all CTD's come with the block heater standard but that when you order the "block heater" what you're actually ordering is the "cord" that you need to plug it in. The option was $10.
Can anybody confirm what the real deal is when you order the block heater option on an '06?
I was too excited when I picked up the truck and forgot to ask, but I would like to know the real story before I call over there and ask for my cord.
TIA

That is correct, the $10 option is simply a cord. All the CTD trucks come with the block heater. But if your truck doesn't have the option then you dont have the cord. BTW, the $10 option cost me $40 at the dealer. It was about a 5 minute installation job.
Buy the Cord!
Are you guys kidding me? What kind of bull corn is that? They give you a heater, but no cord?????
Come on DC...what the H E double hockey sticks is that all about? "That right there my friends is good ol' fashion communism," in the vioce of Sheriff Bufford T. Justice (smokey and the bandit).
That is like selling you a tire and a rim and making the "air" an option. What the heck good is one without the other?
Dorks. They should be banned from the gene pool.
I sure hope you guys are kidding me.....

Actually...
All The Trucks Do Come With The Block Heater Installed....and None Come With The Chord. It Is An Accessory. Dc's Stance Is That Only 1/3 Of The Trucks Ever Have The Heater Utilized In Its Life, So Why Forego The Expense If Its Isnt Needed...

Losers....they are losers....
Some folks don't use their mirrors...maybe we should make mirrors an option...I know, I'm a jerk.....
They come with the cord if you get the 10 dollar option. I know because we ( my family) has bought 5 of these trucks this year, mine is the only one without the 10 dollar option, and the only one without the cord.

Anyways, good luck buying it at the dealership, they rip you off and charge something like $40. Just to let everyone know, you should be able to pick one up at your local Cummins dealer for $13 (i belive thats what it is)

Did they give you the cord during vehicle delivery?
Did you have to go pick it up in the parts department?
I am about to call the dealership and I get the feeling I'm gonna get the runaround. I don't want to make a fuss unless I am 100% sure I am due a cord.
TIA

Just got off the phone with the dealer.
They said truck DOES NOT come with cord for the $10. They said you pay for the piece from the engine block to where the plug goes in. But they have the cords in stock for $51.00 if I'd like one....
Power...did they give it to you as a courtesy since you bought 5 trucks? Maybe they just give it to every diesel customer? Some dealerships have their own little things they do for customers that isn't necessarily standard DC practice.
So where's a cheap place to buy one online?
You are only due the cord if you have the $10 option. If you do not have the option then yes you have to get it at the parts counter and it is $40. Or get it from Cummins (I can't speak to this). There is no trick to installing it with the directions. The cord is just a pin connector with a threaded collar on it. Take a cover off, plug the cord in, tighten the threaded collar around threads on terminal on engine, fasten cord to fram rails with supplied fasteners. Really takes like 5 minutes. As far as saving DC cost, yea maybe, but go ahead and put the $2 cord on and add the $10 to the sticker price of the truck I don't mind and I am sure no one else would either. I think it is just another way to make money IMO. Just try to slip it by people, leave the cord off then package them up send them to the dealer and charge $40 for them. BTW, lets leave out the $.50 ash tray and the $2 cigarette lighter and charge $120 to install them at the dealership and call it "the smokers group." I don't care cause I don't smoke, but it would be a PITA if I did.

If the dealer doesn't order the option you don't get the cord! I have an extra off my old truck...I bought a new "06" from a lot and it didn't have the heater cord....I said no deal....the salesman said for $10 i'll throw one in....we were getting ready to seal the deal and he said WOW they are $51 I can't do it.... I said hmmmm....I'll remember you! I took the one off my trade before I got the new rig...He came up with a new cord to keep from Pi**ing me off...now I have a spare!
