Ball Joints and more ball JOINTS!

All this talk about ball joints, 04 with 85 K miles, front leveling kit and 33" MT tires. I need ball joints and cannot decide which ones to buy, Moog is out of the question, local shop uses McQuay Noris and the part numbers are the same as the pics in the thread about sext ball joints (XRF which are said to be good). WTH i am confused, are they the same ball joints. My local shop quotes almost $600 just for ball joints! THis seems high.
Different local shop swears by Spicer and will use nothing else.

Some say Carli well cant afford to even buy them let alone labor.

Some say dynatrac are rebuldable and bad a$$.

Please am ready to replace and pay someone but want to make sure it is done right. Which ones should I use? Thanks[verymad]

I remember Carli saying he used the McQuay. That's quite a recommendation!!!

I'll use XRF or McQuay when my number comes up.

600 wouldn't be bad for joints that will last... if you were to put moogs in there it would be almost 400, so that extra 200 is worth not having to do it again in 6 months.

Prices

DO you get what you pay for? I can get all 4 XRF BJ for $200, and the Mcquay Norris for $275. I think I will go with the McQuay. Know I need to get a ball joint tool, anyone have success with a particular one, someone mentioned the Snap-On tool and I am sure we can all afford one of those.

I have had zero complaints about the Dynatracs from any of my customers. And you may notice that Carli has some new pricing on the upper/lower ball joint package. They are starting to ship them this week.

The $$$ you were quoted for the Mquay Norris's, was that just for parts or did that include install?

nwflyoda Mar 2, 2010 11:41 PM

i'll be ordering the dynatrac ball joints. yeah, they are about 600 for the set...but they are rebuildable and should last a lot longer than the stock junk ones do. i priced out a set of regualar ball joints from a parts store here and they were about 100 a piece, so only 50 more each and i'll have a better quality product, so its worth it to me.

More to come

The quote was 4 Mcquay Norris ball joints, labor and an alignment. All for just under $900. I tried to tell them I will buy the ball joints and let them install beings I could get them on line at 1/3 of there MSRP price, and they said no way you have to buy them from us. What a rip I am willing to pay for labor but over a 100% mark up on parts, this just sucks I am ready to buy the tools and do it myself and say $*#& them! Looking at tools anyone got any suggestions?

how much do they run? i thought they were about 1k for the set?

Good deal

on 8lugtruckgear.com they are showing all four in a package for $800 and eligible for free shipping? Seems like a good deal. Are you doing the install yourself and if so what kind of ball joint press tool are you using?

KLM performance sells dynatrac joints. got a set a few weeks ago and they are way better than the two sets of OEM's. Have 120k on the truck now.

I too am having to replace the ball joints and almost the entire front end. I ordered the XRF's from an Ebay vendors for $199. Hoping I can do these myself, I have replaced 2 wheel bearings so hopefully it won't be too hard. Besides the ball joints I am replacing both wheel bearing, both front axle ujoints, and the passenger tie rod end. Everything ordered off Ebay for under $600.

They just announced some new pricing when you buy the uppers and lowers together as a set.

I have been looking at the XRF for 200 off ebay also, afraid that if i dont buy good ones i will be replacing in under 50K, you know minor gravel roads no heavy off roading i bet the XRF will do fine, now just trying to find the tool kit to do it myself. If anyone has a good recommendation on a tool besides the $800+ Snap on set please post. I am interested in taking a weekend to do the install myself. Thanks
