Got an 07 5.9 with 90k miles pretty clean truck and well maintained. When I bought it guy said the oil pan was wet but never had to add oil between changes. Never thought much of it when I go to change oil last night thought I will find out where the gasket is leaking...... Not so much! Here the pan has like pack rust in places and low and behold when I scratch it off there is a hole and very thin in other places too. Anyone else heard of this? I can understand an old truck but not a 7 year old one with less than 100k miles on it..... I cleaned it up welded the hole shut and put good apoxy over all the thin places. I will try it out this way and just keep an eye out for leaks again. Thanks guys

Do a search here for oil pan rust. I hate to say it but certain areas of the country have some issues with this. It is pretty common.

Common thread. I live five miles from the ocean and have ground mine down and repainted twice.
However,my neighbor with an '07 has no damage. He parks his truck behind a fence that blocks the ocean breeze.
