dusted engine, void warrenty
has anyone had to fight with dodge over voiding warrenty on there engine. I took my truck in for a small vibration, and foud that I had dusted my engine, and dodge wants to blame my Airaid air filter. Any advice? My truck is a 2004.5 3500ram.

I've seen a few aftermarket cone style air filters come through the shop that have come apart where the filter clamps to the inlet tube on gassers and diesels. None to the point where there was obvious engine damage, but as gritty and dusty as it is around here I'm sure they've not done any favors to the engine.

Sorry bud, but I think Dodge has a legitimate case there... even under the Magnuson-Moss act I think they could probably prove that your aftermarket filter either failed to filter properly, or came off somehow and let dirt into the engine.
As unethical as it may be, you would have been better off putting your stock filter assembly back on when you took it in.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem, but I would have to agree that if there is an aftermarket air filter assembly, and dust got through or around it and damaged the engine, you can't expect Dodge to cover it.
I think if I were in your shoes, I'd politely ask them to show you what they found that lead them to the conclusion that the engine is dusted, and take some good digital photos. I'd also ask for an estimate of repairs, and the results of any other tests they have done (if they did compression, blow by, or whatever).
Then contact the filter company, and see what they say...
Let us know how it comes out.

And yet another reason I'm really trying hard to keep my truck the way it is in my signature - of course with my luck they'll void my warranty because I installed gauges - even with a post-turbo pyro.
Almost 30K on it now - only 70K and change to go :-)
