Allison in the dodges

In my new diesel power mag this month it talks about a new Allison/torqshift-fighting heavy duty six-speed trans that is made by Aisin-Seiki. What do you guys think of that? Sounds pretty cool to me.

aisin warner was it better known name. it will be in the 3500 chassis cab only not all trucks. 68rfe made in the USA(kokomo Indianas ITP 1 plant) will be coming down the line soon and fitted to the remaning trucks as the 48re will get phased out. I am told testing was done around 1000 lb ft, and the engineer that told me that cannot wait to get one(68rfe that is).

Why is this thread titled "allison in the dodges?" As far as I know, no one is saying there's gonna be an allison put in the dodges, but rather the aisin will be.

The allision is built by the aisin company. I just read this article yesterday and it was very interesting to hear of this new tranny. I just hope that the tranny will hold up to some mods without have to do some major work to it. Just think about it, all the Cheby guys are braggin about the allision being the greatest tranny and this combined with the duramax makes the Cheby the best truck. What are they going to say when they find out it is also in the Dodges?

I am pretty sure that is what the article said. I could always be wrong though. You should look at the article, it is a good read.

Allison I believe is owned by GM.
Aisin is an Asian owned company that builds Auto trannys for the import manufacurers.

TOKYO--(AutomotiveWire)--Aug. 4, 1997--Senior executives from General Motors' Allison Transmission and Aisin Seiki concluded final arrangements here today for a new joint venture to market automatic transmissions in Japan and other areas of the Asia Pacific, according to Dan Hancock, president of Allison Transmission.

The joint venture calls for the formation of a new company headquartered in Japan: Aisin GM Allison Co., Ltd. The signing of the agreement by Hancock and Hajime Kondo, executive vice chairman of Aisin Seiki, consummated negotiations that first began in late 1994 between the two companies.........

Ok, that makes it look like they are presently two different companies in the same industry, and that they are going to at least partly merge. I have a bad feeling about that-most of the time, it seems that when american companies and asian companies play ball, the american companies get the short end of the stick. Too many tariffs and one-way hurdles. It's funny how an american company setting up shop in china must include at least one chinese partner, and in japan, no foreigners can own a majority of a japanese company.

I think the article in Diesel Power Mag said that the new dodge tranny is going to give the Allison a run for its money. They way is was worded was kind of confusing. Just read it last night and had to do a double take and re-read.

allison and dodge just dosn't sound wright. The allison tranny was the big reason I switched to dodge. (allison went bang in 2500 miles in my chebby) Sinse the switch, I have never looked back.
