Question All 6 need replacement?!

Well, my 03 went in the shop. Seems I had an injector that failed open- flooded the case with diesel and was puking it out the blowby.

Seems that this is the only problem...
But they came back last week and told me that they will be replacing ALL 6 injectors as well as all the high pressure plumbing lines....? WHY?

Is there some TSB going on that when this happens they just replace them all?

I smell a turd...but honestly it would probably be better to replace them all at once. If you can, get a second opinion from a trusted source.

No it dosen't smell like turd...My truck now smells like Diesel!!! All over!!

Warranty...
Yah' I've only got 67K miles...Still has 7/70 and the 7/100 on her.

Second opinion!!!?
Do you know how hard it is to find a qualified Diesel mech at a Dodge dealership??? I mean someone who REALLY knows their stuff...?

So far all dealers in my area have ONE (1) each -they call there diesel specialist...

I guess I could take it to the Cummins shop ...Ahhh' will they honor the dodge warranty? NO! Ready the wallet!!!!

Warranty work is so meaningless sometimes...Unless you know exactly whos playing in your truck, you could end up worse off. (My opionion only)...

Most of the time the dealerships are worthless. Bite the bullet and take it to Cummins.

Take them under warranty and run with a grin ! if they are trying to get you to pay for it, youch, I would need some proof that there is a problem with the other 5, say pop test or something along those lines. as for the high presure lines, maybe they mangled them during the removal? and they should be responsible for damaging them, and replace them free of charge.

if they are covered under your warranty who cares. maybe pick up a good set and get the mechanic to pop them in instead.

As above if it's under warranty let them change them all. My experiances have been that they only chnage them 1 at a time and that they have to prove that they have totally failed. On my 04.5 had 1 replaced, #4, and asked them to check for further problems, no way, we only get paid to do 1 was what I was told (bull) but after leaving dealership truck ran stronger than new and better fuel millage, but 28 days later in Corbin Ky lost #6 and same problem, we only check for the one that failed. After that change millage droped like a rock and truck ran not so good as it after #4 change. Tried to get another dealer to check but got standard answer, if no codes there isn't a problem that we can diagionis and fix. Finally gave up and traded truck for an 07 5.9. So far happy with the new one.

So thats why they are doing it...Kinda' makes sense...do um' all at once, so I don't have to keep popping $100 every warranty visit...

ok, why are you crying about them replacing all of them? if they didnt and when the next one went out (out of warranty) you would be on here doggin because they didnt replace them to start with.

If it was mine i wouldnt leave b4 they replaced all the injectors, pump, lines, ect...

you want them to replace them. that will definitively document the dilution of the oil due to bad injectors, if you have bearing trouble down the line, they cannot try to sidestep the responsibility.

dieselfumes57,
I'm in no way shape or form -crying about this!
I'm love'in it!

I was just questioning WHY....Thats all.

dodgezilla04,
Good point. I took some time to read up on this happening to others here and what the outcome was.
Basically from how I'm understanding it:
-Short duration = really clean internals...
-Long duration could = problems down the road...

I asked about this @ the dealer, "how are you going to guarantee none of the internals have been damaged?"
1. compression check.
2. oil pressure.
3. split the oil filter open and check for particles.

"So no open her up and have a look around?"

Nope...

That sound about right???
