Added Rear Anti Sway Bar - Ride is terrible !

Wanted to share my Anti Sway Bar experience with everyone interested. Installed Hellwig #7658 rear bar to help minimize side to side sway with the camper on. Works great for that but the ride unloaded is terrible !!!! It feels like I added a chunk of wood between the axle and frame. I completely understand how this thing is supposed to work, if I hit a bump or hole with one rear tire, it should ride worse but not when the two rear tires hit something at the same time like a railroad crossing. I am looking at trying to find or build a end rod disconnect for it for when i am unloaded but haven't got that far yet. In the past, I have got many compliments on how nice this truck rides for a 1 ton, but that has gone down the tubes. Anyway, has anyone else experienced this with theirs?

Added one to mine awhile back and noticed no appreciable change in the ride, all be it a 2500 not a 3500, but I don't think that would make too much of a difference. Are you sure its adjusted properly? Just a thought.

I added a Hellwig rear sway bar several years ago because of the slide-in camper I have and noticed NO change in ride quality at all. Is something causing the bar or linkage to bottom out somehow? Is there excessive binding in the assembly? I really can't explain why your ride quality should suffer as a result of the addition of a rear sway bar.

I don't know either. I believe it is adjusted correctly based on the vague instructions. The end-links are perfectly vertical and the bar is parallel to the ground. This is what the tech at Hellwig said for adjustment. Is this correct?

I'm not having any issues with ride quality, loaded or unloaded.

Same experience as the others here, no change in ride quality, but a nice difference (for the better) in handling. I have the IPD rear bar on mine which in fact is slightly heavier (larger diameter) than the Hellwig bar.

Try getting rid of the sway bar and install the Ride-Rite Air bags. They will fix all your problems and even help with the level problem yo may be having when loaded. You can run them with 5lbs of air when running empty and they don't effect the ride then.

No changes here. Just better cornering. Did you lube the bushing before install?

If you are refering to air bags, I already have them. They help level the load but do not help side to side like a sway bar.

Yep! Put a little grease on the bushings before install.

I am going to try sliding the end bar links farther back on the frame a inch at a time to see if this helps.

Keep coming with the suggestions though. It's bound to help.

Update !! I move the frame mounts back about 2-3" so now there is a little angle to the bar ends. They will straighten out (more vertical) when loaded. Anyway, it rides awesome now. Same ride comfort as before but handles better. Amazing what a little tweaking can do. To bad nobody at Hellwig knows enough about thier own products to share with their customers.

BEHRMAN sway bar

I just ordered a Hellwig rear sway bar for my 2004.5 CTD. I did have the ride you talk about in a F-250 Ford camper special with factory rear sway bar. I just unhooked on of the links and disabled the bar till I needed it.
