? about short trips.
I am consdering purchasing an '03 2500 5.9 HO QC, 4X4, and I was wondering if short trips were a concern, this would be my 1st diesel truck, and what I am mainly worried about, is the fact that it's only a 5 mile drive to work. I was wondering if this would cause any harm to the motor, and if so, what I could do to prevent any undo damage. Thanks for the help.
Re:? about short trips.
A gasser is not going to like repeated 5 mile trips either. Engines do best when they can get to normal operating temperatures, and even if it's uphill both ways 5 miles won't do it.

On the bright side, even if your driving habits cut the engine life in half, you will be able to commute for at least 60 years before it dies.

Re:? about short trips.
I also have a short drive to work. A big 3 miles. Been doing this for years with gassers but this is my first diesel. Just put some miles on it over the weekends and change oil more frequently and you'll be ok.

MikeyB

Re:? about short trips.
Sohio ,
Short trips are not really good on any engine/trans . But as was suggested before ..stay on top of your engine servicing ,and it shouldn't be a biggy . However ,with frequent trips that short make sure you go by the servere service reccomendations in your owners manual . OR just drive a bit farther than you need to to get to work and enjoy your new truck :)
Personally I like Plan "B" John
