48re BANG, BANG
 

I have a 2003 2500 with a 48 re auto.trans. and it does not shift smoothly especially from first to second Is this jerking normal? its going to the shop for its first oil change and I already told the shop manager about it. Thanks Dave

Are they putting 48RE's in CA trucks? You sure it's not a 47RE? ...Not that it make a difference. Has it always shifted harsh? If it winds out or "hangs" between shifts, it could be the throttle valve cable adjustment.

Both S.O. and H.O. Trucks now come with the 48RE. The 47RE is no longer being produced. (Atleast behind the Cummins)

There are still trucks out there with the 47RE in them. I own one and it is less than a month old..

[/quote] Yes my CA has the 48re and I learned that many 03's still got the 47 but it was dropped from the line up. While looking at window stickers I saw 03's with 47's and 48's

My 48re shifts firm in all gears. Not harsh, just a nice bump so you know it is shifting. I'd rather have it that way then a slush box like my 03 with the SO/47re was.

i have no problems with mine either, firm shifts, but not jerky.i have the HO, not sure how those CALI engines differ. ??? ???

mine also shifts firmly, that's the way it's supposed to be. Holds OD very well when towing. I'm very impressed so far...time will tell.

The 47RE tranny is not in my 2003 Ram Truck Service Manual. The only auto tranny for Ram CTD since Jan 2003 is the 48RE. The 2003 Service Manual was in print before the 48RE was in the trucks. I have a close friend who has a SO CARB CTD Ram with 48RE. CARB doesn't care a hoot as to what kind of tranny you have, just the exhaust emmisions.

I believe that the issue with Calif. trucks was not the trans, it was the HO/auto combo and CARB. At the time, the 48RE was not put behind SO engines, thus the absence of 48REs in Calif. trucks.

The current 2003 HO engine does not meet CARB Emmisions Standards. It does not matter what tranny it is mated with the HO CTD, the NV5600 6 speed, the now obsolete 47RE, or it's replacement 48RE. It cannot be sold in California and a handful of other states.

When DaimlerChrysler, Dodge division started installing the 48RE in the 49 state version SO CTD, they also started installing the 48RE in the Calif CARB version SO CTD.

The 48RE had been slated to be introduced at the beginning of the beginning of the 2003 model year as the automatic for all CTDs. However, delays in development and testing delayed its introduction until mid-model year, Jan 2003.
