4.10's ONLY on duallys?
Thanks for the info. I am new to the diesel truck word. I am looking at purchasing a new truck in the next few months and I think that I am going to get the cummins with the 48re and 3.73. My last full size was a 98 silverado with a 5.7 gas and 3.42 or 3.44 gears and it performed well for me. Most of my miles say 98% I am unloaded/ not pulling, the other 2% I am pulling a farm wagon that is so overloaded that I dont dare get over 15 MPH. Trips less than 10 miles, so when I was looking at the literature I see the cummins produces ~ twice the torque and HP of the older 5.7 and am sure it would handle the same load with the same gears as the 5.7, the torque curve looks good on the cummins. I realize if you are going to pull a heavy load all day at 75 MPH the lower gears would help. I guess that the main reason I like the lower gears was that I could run 75 MPH and the tach was around 2,000. To me this would increase the life of the engine. I think the diesels red line around 3,000 and idle around 1,000 so I know the RPM range is less than a gas. What RPM should a diesel run to ensure clean fuel burning?
