Hey jlehma,

My 2003 had the same problem. It restarted and ran fine for about 2 weeks then died while I was towing my trailer. My symptoms were the same and it was the lift pump in the tank quit working. Mine quit at 72,000 and fortunately was covered under my extended warranty. If it wasn't under warranty, I was prepared to put a FASS setup on it. Hope this helps out.

Good Luck

Lift pump......get it fixed before it leaves you stranded......if it is out of warranty go with a FASS or Airdog.

No recalls. However if you still have the pump that is located behind the fuel filter, you can order one from Geno's for under $200.00. It is a fairly easy swap out I am told. You have fairly low mileage so it is probably the original and not an intank retrofit. I would not let the dealer do an intank retrofit, but you still may be under warranty and have no choice if you have the dealer replace the LP.

Yes, it should be covered under warranty but be warned....if they do it, they will put the new one in the tank like was said above, and it too will fail. If funds can allow...I know times are hard for everyone....do yourself the favor and find another LP that bolts to backside of the filter canister...it's super easy to replace. Once the one in the tank fails, you either pull the bed or drop the tank and neither is a one man job. Thankfully I was able to afford an AirDog system about 4 yrs ago (the wifey was super p***ed at me though) and I have never looked back.

Jlehma -

Its your lift pump for sure. My truck was throwing those codes for a few weeks, running rough and the like.
Get a replacement lift pump from Genos. It takes all of 1/2 hour to do yourself, in your driveway, with hand tools.
I took off the drivers side wheel and inner fender. Made it a ton easier to do.

I have a little over 121K on the truck so it was time.

You really don't want the dealer replacing the pump due to them putting in tank. Plus, I think its about a 7 or 800 dollar job.

I don't think its covered under warranty because it's not a Cummins engine part. Its a Dodge part and the truck is 8 years old.

Best -
Steve
