Exclamation 2005 48re shift problem

just purchased a 2005 quad cab short bed, all is ok but 2-3 3-4 upshift over about 3/4 throttle it will not shift until let up on throttle, trans does not slip at all, no codes in system except cooling fan over speed, also if going higway speed and floor it it downshifts to many gears and the motor goes about 400 rpm past redline, if drive with light throttle would never know there was an issue, fluid looks good and is not burnt, any ideas ?

How many miles? Mine did that under power not after long.. Tranny still worked fine just seemed like a semi automatic as I could somewhat control when the shift would happen. The stock trans/converter cannot take much over the stock power.. Do you have any idea of the previous owner? Just imagine what it could have been driven like? What it may had on it for programmers? They are very good transmissions but these trucks are capable of making way more than they were designed to handle.

What I am saying is you just picked this up.

The previous owner could have had all types of neat stuff on the truck..

If you know a decent transmission shop that has Dodge diesel experience I would have them take a look at it. I would think with those miles it would at least make sense to change fluid/filter and see how it looks inside.

Depending on your plans for the truck? Valve body and Tq converter would be the best way to firm the trans up.

I had the Billet DTT put in with 98k on the truck and it was shifting similar to what you are seeing. I think the larger tires was making my trans worker much harder than it did stock. Was very $$ but wish I had done it much sooner in my list of extras because of the difference it made to drive the truck.

Night and Day difference...

Pretty typical of a stock transmission. They don't shift that fast and with the sloppy converter they don't hook very good either.

The lazy upshift is typical of the gov solenoid going south, among other things. Since it works well unless you push it hard it sounds the typical gov problems.

The over rev on downshift is pretty typical also, transmission protects itself by being loose.

I would have to agree it seems kind of normal. I play with the pedal to get mine to shift if I am stuck behind some who accellerates on the slower side. If the road is open in front of me, I don't notice any issues.

I would try to adjust the bands, mine shifted sloppy prior to doing the adj,it now shifts up and down the way it should, very crisp and smooth. You may well have other issues, but this is a cheap fix, if it helps.

parts with fluid filterand gov and sensor about $160. band adjustment was not bad, outer one to adjust was very hard to get a wrench on lock nut but other than that was not hard
