2004 5.9 into a 2006 w/bad5.9?
found a wreck 2004 with a 5.9 and auto trans, only thing missing is charge air cooler. Oil pan is punctured, but otherwise complete. ECM and all wire harness, starter, turbo, all sensors in tact. Engine in my 06 (5.9) is missing (shop says time to rebuild). 245000 on truck and original engine. Would this swap work? Thanks

Late getting back on this topic. Never saw your reply, ordered a Black's Diesel Performance long block for the 06 5.9, just picked the truck it up this evening, 2-1/2 months later. New engine installed, seems to be running strong. Mechanic asked me if it had been built up "stock"? Don't know, didn't pay for any upgrades.. Who knows? Bought the 04 wreck in the meantime. It's the same block (checked the code in the vin). Exhaust is all 3", the 06 requires 4". What other parts could I use on my 06? Starter? Injection pump? 04 engine is complete. Should be worth how much? Guess I'll try to sell it, thanks for the info.

Your 2004 engine is a early 2004 with a 3" exhaust, as the 2004.5 has a 4" exhaust, I bought my .5 on 02-04-2004 it came with the 4" exhaust, Your engine is a 305 hp, as the 04.5 has the 325 hp, later cummins added 10 thrust to 610 allowance for A/C ???
