2003-2008 Ram recall alert

Looks as though the Dodge Ram has another recall pertaining to the tie-rod issue. They say the tie-rod may be misaligned or cracked. According to the alert parts and fixes won't be available until after Jan. 2014. Check goggle to verify for sure what years and models. I believe this is a new recall could be an old one reinvented.... Year of trucks affected are Rams, 2003-2008, 2500,3500, and 5500.......

It would be nice to get some new front end parts, but I'm wary of letting someone mess with my truck. I've got some steering wander, but it's because of the crappy Moogs that I put in there after my stock ones took a poo.

It it ain't broke...

I'm not doing anything to mine right now.I'll wait till i get the notice ,then maybe consider it.I have already had the tie rod replaced when I had the whole front end replaced in 2011.Drives fine so why mess with it.

I agree with you Rob, I tow my fiver with my truck across country at least once a year to visit our career soldier son {21 years in} and his family when ever he is stationed state side. So now this notice that I have seen on TV creates a doubt. Guess I'll sit back and wait on a notice if they send one. Also there is a recall on the multi-function switch on my truck but I have had no troubles with it, probably will screw up after the recall is void {Void after 150X miles or 10 years which ever comes first}...

"Customers will be notified by letter in December, and work could begin in January, the company said. Owners of Ram 4500 and 5500 models can take their trucks to dealers for interim repairs because parts may not be available until late next year, the statement said. The interim service would involve realignment of the front ends."

Not sure how you can mis-align a tie rod end. They only go on one way.

And how is a front end alignment going to help that?

And it's going to be a year before parts are available to actually fix the problem.

Fortunately, I replaced both of mine earlier this year because they had some slop to them.

I had to replace mine a while back ago because the tie rod end broke while I was driving it. It would be nice if they would reimburse me the money I just spent replacing all of it. It aint my fault they broke before I was notified of the recall.

That's been discussed in the cab/chassis forum. They have to take the 4500/5500s to a spring shop because they can't figure out how to draw lines on a front wheel to check toe-in manually, and the trucks won't fit their alignment racks.

Though if there is no slop in the tie rod end, simply not moving the truck should get you really really close.

On the recall.

If you have already experienced this condition and have paid to have it repaired, please send your original receipts and/or other adequate proof of payment to the following address for reimbursement.

I just got mine today... the verbiage in mine says "2003 through 2008 model year Dodge Ram 1500-3500 series trucks that had the steering linkage replaced with Mopar service parts."

While I'm still going to take mine in, to me, this means that you have to have replaced parts from the originals...

I had a leaky steering gear box at 84000 mi. and dealer replaced it and steering parts with much heaver ones under extended warranty. Tie rod, drag link, steering damper,I think everything to do with the steering. At least they look heaver duty, much larger in dia. Haven't had any problems after 10000 more mi. Will this recall apply to mine?

I installed one of these kits in my truck over the summer
DODGE RAM 03 To 2010 2500 & 3500 Steering Upgrade Kit PN PK362AF
I wonder if they'll pay me back?
