2 cycle oil in fuel tank.
I read something on this board a while back about useing 2 cycle synthetic oil in the tank for pump lube and system health. What do you guys use and what benefits does it give. Thanks, TLB.

I recently took a trip to Grand Junction, CO. On my way there I put in half a bottle of Howes Meaner Power Cleaner since I was still having some white smoke at startup (previous issue). I got 18.8 mpg down there. On the way back I put in a quart of Valvoline ashless 2 cycle in the tank and got 20.6. I don't think the 2 cycle attributed to the big jump in mileage, but I think it help a little. Now the engine runs smoother and starts perfect everytime. So my new regimen for additive will be half a bottle of Howes on one tank and a quart of 2 cycle in the next and switch back and forth from now on.

I use TCW3 every other tank alternating with Power Service Diesel Klean. I do noticed a different. With the mixture oil the engine is quieter and smoother. And little better fuel economy.

I think it's probably just easy to add half. Howes states that too much won't hurt. I do the same thing with the Howes. I just havn't gotten up the nerve to try the 2 stroke oil yet. I've been using PSD Grey bottle and MMO. Seems to run smoother, but I couldn't say about better mpg.

Someone on here said to use 1oz. per gal. of fuel.

Biggest reason why was I still had white smoke on startup. I'd already had two injectors replaced and a reflash because of it. Since I was taking it over the mountains I figured it would help burn off any crap that might be causing it. And like txfiremedic said it was easier since I had half a bottle left. It cured the problem and made the truck run smoother with the 2 cycle.

Maybe I am doing it wrong?

No real reason why. Just clean and lubricate.

If anyone want MSDS sheets on these other products I can give you links for PS, MMO, Standyne, AMSOil, etc... Basically all fuel additives are made of 3 chemicals... Mineral Spirits (paint thinner), Xylene (Paint Thinner), and Naptha (Zippo lighter fluid)
Here is a common MSDS sheet... (MMO MSDS Sheet)
http://www.setonresourcecenter.com/m...3/wcd04377.htm
You can buy these raw at your hardware store...
There is absolutely no reason to dump a harsh solvent in you fuel to clean it. If you injectors are plugging up maybe you should change your fuel filter... Or if you think there is depsoits maybe you should hook up a trailer and haul something...
But as for lubricants there isn't enough in todays fuel...

Here is my results as of currently... I started using 2 cycle oil at 85K miles and figured out the mixture by 95K miles
My MPG graph...
Zoom in at 85K miles to current.
And Cost per mile
I've saved roughly $800 dollars using 2 cycle oil...
My dyno sheet... 228/462 Stock run... Edge Comp 5x5 381/826 379/831

Thanks for sharing your info Mopar1973man. Lots of work went into that.
So you just use 2 cycle oil as a fuel additive? No Howes, Lucas, ect? What kind of oil do you use?
So with your 128:1 ratio you came up with, how much oil do you usually put in at every fill up?
Thanks again for sharing your re-search.
Scott aka Skinner.
